They absolutely scare me to death. You can't understand a word they say, you have no ideas what they want, and I'm always terrified that I am going to drop one some day.

This is the one aspect of medicine I am dreading...dealing with children. I don't know how to talk to them. I've practiced and practiced. I held my buddy's baby cousin the other day and I was literally shaking out of fear!

Anyone else have this phobia?
 
no, i think they are cute and cuddly and much like cartoon bear cubs from the charmine commercial. though i don't like it when they shriek and cry.
i actually think it's really amusing to talk to children and infants/babies as if they were adults. see how they react. you'd be surprised, a 5 y/o picks up a lot of adult speech patterns.

apparently it's a big no-no to treat kids as small adults, though.

take some estrogen?

The same Charmine commercial where the bear has toilet paper chunks stuck in his butt? That commercial is disgusting. 😱
 
Lol. I guess some people are just this way. No idea how you're going to have kids though. I'd recommend constant exposure. Face your fears!

That's the worst part...I really want kids. I just want them to come out of the womb 8+ years old(sure the future Mrs. will disagree😛).
 
I think kids are fine. I hate parents.
 
Yeah, holding babies freak me out. I'm always so afraid that I will drop them. I'm the same way with holding puppies too. 🙁

The only young toddlers that freak me out are the one's who look like dolls in beauty pageants...it's just plain freaky and wrong.

That's actually pretty funny. But after they reach 4-5, they're surprisingly smart. And impressionable! A lot of people feel like you at first, but you'll be fine.

Something like, "A mother becomes a mother when she's pregnant, but a father becomes a father when he first sees/holds his child". From a movie somewhere. I think it was Knocked Up. Not that great of reference, but I think it has some merit. 🙂
 
I can easily end the life of a child, why should I be afraid of it?
 
i'm scared of dealing with children and old people 🙁

i'm terrible with kids, i am the youngest child and i never babysat or anything so i have NO idea how to talk to them. hopefully practice will help me lol

I am good with playing with children. In fact, I love being around children. 😀😀😀

Methinks you're overthinking this whole situation...is it really that hard to put yourself in a kid's shoes and think like them?
 
I can handle kids-I was a nanny for a family with 4 kids under 10 for two years.
It is the parents that are totally going to drive me insane.
 
I hate most children. I interact well with kids, and they seem to like me, but I do my best to avoid being around them. If they're intelligent and well behaved, no hate, but most of the kids I've met between 2-13 years old were little monsters.


I blame high fructose corn syrup.
 
I work a gig in neonatology. Its level 4, so, there isn't much to talk about, but I am scared of the pulse-ox.

When i was a kid, i had to look for my baby cousin, and i dropped him 😱. He was crying VERY loud. Many years passed since that time, but i still dont have positive emotions to babies... That moment with dropping a baby is always in my head when someone tries to give me baby, and yeah they are mess, look so fragile, and i am afraid to break something in them.
Conclusion: I dont hate them or terrified by them but neither love them
 
wow guys, get a part time job in a daycare to get over your fears. The important thing to remember when talking to a child is to ask very direct questions: Does your tummy hurt works better than where do you hurt...

I have a 5 year old and a 1 year old and was terrified of babies until I had them

Sometimes you must use the same logic when dealing w/ adults.
 
I am the same...I held my baby nephew the other day and I was terified that i was going to drop him and my sister will hate me forever..,..

yeah for nannying. I did 6 boys under 6 and a foster baby for 3 years. I think it should be counted as an EC. And its the best birth control ever!


OP, just work at a VA for the government. lol. no kids. good pay, great bene's. sick technology and good research ops. freedom from most insurance hassles. oh yeah, and no kids!!! 👍

Me too! That's why when everyone else crowds around cooing over the new baby, I'm like "Please get the baby away from me!!!!" 🙄
