Hey Everyone,
So I'm here kinda having a mini vacation and of course what am I doing researching veterinary schools because I still have no idea where i want to go yet. I'm one of those people who is just like "GET ME OUT OF MY HOME STATE NOW PLEASE" so basically anywhere at this point will do, making my decisions very hard. But getting to the point, anyone goes or know about Melbourne? Im looking at their website but I'm kinda bewildered. They have a five year program and a new DVM program? But havent they been accredited for awhile so to be frank, wtf?😕

I am not a rock-star guru on melbourne. But I do know some stuff. Note- I am assuming you mean state as in US state, rather than state, as in Australian state.

They only recently got their avma accred, but have had accred in Australia (where it's located, of course) since... well, pretty much forever. I'm sure they cover most of this on the site. I believe they also have accreditation in several other countries, but again, their website is probably the best place to look for that.

The 5 year thing is a British/ Commonwealth thing. Most Aussies and kiwis, and Brits and Irish, and so forth go straight from high school to college (or uni, as it were) ad study vet as a first degree. Until they began this new graduate thing, anyone who went there would graduate with something like a BVMS or BVSci- after 5 years full time study. They are (as I recall) in the process of moving to a graduate entry program, more like what we have in the US, for various reasons.

finally, to pimp some info, and a site that is super useful and deserves all the traffic I can send it- there is tons of info on this on www.vsna.com

It was started by someone who went to AUS. for her degree, and who knows if she's ever coming back now. But she's developed an amazing community, with links, and info on time, and money, and moving, and the application process over there and everything. You should check it out.
