so far i have been on 2 gas invites. at both interviews i was asked questions that i found a bit shocking and distasteful. i can't even bring myself to post some of the questions. lets just say the last place i was at, a program i was very interested in, asked me essentially if I wanted to become a physician because my parents forced me to, since according to the interviewer candidates from my ethnic background tend to be pressured by his/her parents to become a physician.

its one thing to ask if your parents or family influenced your decision to go into medicine. its a whole different story linking an entire race to that belief.
and this person was going off on how medicare is cutting reimbursement and what not...maybe because there are idiots like you in the profession!!

i was offended. im over it. i handled it with a smile and a laugh and shook it off. i took it as a test for them to try to see how i handle weird situations. nonetheless, i found the style just shady.

anyone else have any weird questions they were asked on interviews? doesnt have to necessarily pertain to race.....

Dude chill out.

Lifes too short to get all bent out of shape over silly comments.

You dont sound like the kinda guy who just shrugs things off and laughs at others stupid utterances. You do know what specialty your entering right? A glorified nurse, surgeon's whipping boy, lazy gas passer, more interested in money than patients, etc, etc, etc. Get used to being offended then!

had a guy at a program in NJ - i think he was the residency director (don't remember.. didn't rank them) - ask me all the usual questions, and after the standard "why anesthesiology?" followed by my usual answers (does anyone really have a unique answer for that question?). then he raised an eyebrow and said something along the lines of "and how about the reason you are afraid to mention?". i figured he was talking about decent salary.. maybe? i just told him there was no hidden reason, and he seemed to not believe me.

"You got me sir. I have this weird fetish about taping eyes closed. This job is my personal goldmine of eye-taping pleasure."

I think I would really like to get a weird, off the wall question. I'm kind of sick of giving my why anesthesia speech.

But, I guess the whole point is to get to know you.
