I'm in my fourth week of my MPH program through ATSU, and I'm really enjoying it. I had the choice of obtaining my master's in biology as well, but the MPH is better for my work schedule. I was just wondering if there were any dental students or dentists who have decided to go this route and what the advantages or disadvantages were. Also, any feedback from current MPH students would be appreciated as well!

The only disadvantage of enrolling into an MPH program is that it will not affect your science GPA. If you had a low undergrad science GPA, a Masters in Biology would have been more beneficial. Otherwise, I don't see a problem with doing an MPH. I personally went with a M.S. in Biology and I have a few interviews this cycle so far.

In some MPH programs, you do have opportunities to take upper level science courses.

I know some schools really like MPHs...cough...Kentucky...cough

But what 4th molar said is true, you won't have much chance to increase the science GPA. I almost did an MPH too, but I really needed a science-heavy master's so I went with a Microbio MS.
