Anyone here apply early-ish in the cycle and only get a very late interview ( feb/march) and still got accepted?

If so, what are your stats and what schools were they?

Thanks!

I sent in all my applications by mid February, but I interviewed at SCO in late Feb, UMSL in late march and AZCOPT in Early April. I got into UMSL and AZCOPT really soon after the actual interview (UMSL like...a week, AZCOPT like...20 hours), but SCO made me wait a couple months. 😛 They didn't accept me until mid April. But a win is a win!

cGPA: 2.89
OAT: 330
Experience: Lots

I sent in all of my applications (6) by the end of November and got only one interview at PCO in February. A couple of weeks later I was placed on the waiting list in case seats opened up. In May I received a letter of acceptance.

overall GPA: 3.05
science GPA: 2.89
OAT total: 300
optometry experience: 2 summers worth of work in a private practice office, a little over a month total of shadowing other optometrists, and a summer in a glasses making factory

well i finally got some interviews.. and instead of being happy im more stressed out. I have many outstanding pre-reqs to complete before the semester begins, even if I get accepted and i dunno if I will have time to seeing as thought im working now. even if i quit, i already missed this semester. I have C- in a lot of my pre-reqs and this sucks.

what should i do? is it worth going to the interview if i know it's not possible to complete? i may be able to complete some but perhaps 1 or 2 would not be.....FML 🙁🙁

^ Cant you finish your prereqs in the spring or summer term before optometry school starts in the fall? If the schools offered you an interview, that means that they must be interested in you in one way or another.

You have already gotten this far in the application process, dont give up on yourself! I think you should go and get interviewed, and if the schools ask about the prereqs, just let them know that you are doing your best to finishing them.

Best of luck!

How many pre-reqs do you have that is outstanding? To be honest, if you KNOW that you can't complete them in time, why did you apply??

I hear that you can get an interview with one of the new schools like Midwestern.
Has anyone interviewed at Midwestern?
Any tips?

well i tried to repeat some of the courses before i applied and i eneded doing BAD in them again cause of certain circumstances. MY oat scores are average. is there a possibility that they will let me take less than the amount of courses i have listed? Cause some of the courses I have a C- in. i am willing to retake all the courses i can in the summer. im just wondering, like if the itnerview goes well, will they consider my situation in taking the pre-reqs aand tell me i dont need to do all of them just the ones i can? or is that something out of the question? Im going to attend the interviews, because I put so much effort into this.

i think u should definitely go to at least one... the place where u are most interested in perhaps, and see how the interview goes and what they think about you. Maybe they might offer you some kind of conditional acceptance if the interview goes really well. Where did u get interviews to?

MCO, western, NOVA. Don't schools usually not extend interviews to ppl who have more than a certain amount of pre-reqs incomplete? I'm just very confused because I would need to start enrolling in courses now and quit my job soon. I'm waiting on PCO because I believe they accept C- as a prereq which would make my life much easier. But my number one choice is NECO. I don't know if I will attend Western's interview..seems like a lotta work for a new school. Do you think PCO/NECO will give me an interview invite?

Thanks for the advice. I need to prepare to go to interviews. I guess I'll see wut happens from there?? Or just enroll in the courses now? My back up plan is going to the UK for optometry since I'm already accepted but I don't think it's my number one choice. If I don't get in to schools here, I guess I will just go to the UK next year. But it really irritates me because I already took the OAT twice, retook courses and everything -ALL for the US. Getting into the UK does not require that I just hope that one school works out for me somewhere in the US.

Good luck, remember to stay positive!
