Anyone got accepted and then rejected from med school?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I once had a dream pamela anderson was giving me a sponge bath, but then on the next dream...

"She said, this is way too sick even for me"....

so go figure... 😀

didn't it happen to some Duke applicants this year?

Something went awry with Duke's online status check and people were being told they were accepted...I guess it was some kind of bug. They fixed it quickly and then everyone's status was put back to "waiting for decision" since acceptance letters hadn't gone out yet. Many people thought that they had just been notified early, but by mistake, that they were accepted but I remember that some people whose status had changed to accepted that fateful night actually ended up getting rejected in the end. So it is never official until you have that letter in your hands!

I keep thinking it's going to happen to me. I'm even more paranoid now that I've declined all my other acceptances. My heart beats fast whenever I get any mail from them. I guess after classes begin I'll get a bit more comfortable 🙂 .

Original, How many schools did you appply (and which ones) and where you got accepted. Do you mind sharing your stats?

applied to 16, received interviews from 11, attended interviews at 4, accepted at 3. My stats are 3.8 Ugpa and 33S MCAT.

Every time I get a letter from Rush, I have a microsecond of panick time where I think that this is where they will realize their mistake in admitting me 😀 😀 . It gets better with each "step" towards matriculation. I sent in my transcripts (with my posted degree) Friday and felt a little less paranoid. When I send in my medical forms, I'll feel a bit less paranoid than that. I suppose this will continue until I actually register for classes in September.

I thinked it helped me alot that I was finishing an MS in math; and i had lots of extras and leadership. It definitely wasn't my stats. Those were just borderline good-enough not to get me kicked to the curb.

True story: a friend of mine got into Howard last year. Then he called to see if he could get a deferral because of a family situation. Instead of letting him get a deferral or denying the deferral and making him start last fall anyway, they simply retracted their acceptance and told him to apply again next (this) year. That had been the only acceptance he got last year 🙁 . This time around he is waiting to hear from Howard and another school. Still. He's a great person and deserves to go to med school. I can't believe they did that to him. 😕 If he doesn't get in this time around, he will be a third-time applicant.

I was one of the Duke fake acceptees. It sucked. Fortunately, it all worked out in the end (ie, I wouldn't have ended up going there even if I were accepted), but lesson learned: exercise caution with online status checks. Don't make any major decisions or decline other offers until you have the real deal firmly in hand!
