Anyone have a bad experience at a Postbacc?

I guess nobody has bad experiences in any postbacc. 🙂

Well, in my case, I guess bad is relative, but since no one is volunteering much of anything, I'll go... 🙂

The classes at the school itself were really good. I learned more in one year in that program than I did in my original time in school. However, the pre-med advisor at that school was not good. He was a nice enough person, and meant well, but he gave me bad advice in some cases, and refused to be available when I needed his help at times (ie - critiquing my PS). Based on feedback I have gotten from admissions directors, I am pretty sure that had I had an advisor who was more capable/available/whatever, I would actually have gotten into med school this past year.

So that's my situation. Be careful, if/when you choose a post-bac. Make sure your advisor is capable, and that he/she is someone who is worth your trust. They make a big difference in the process.

I took two science classes at my local CC (which I would not have done had I known about this board beforehand) right after college, and was not impressed with the quality at all.

Also, if you look through the past Columbia threads, several students expressed strong reservations about the program.

👍 👍 Any advising is really important, though go a step further. No issue is too small to consider when looking at a post-bacc, and in my experience, it is these little things that really add up and can define a program. For example: How easy is it to add/drop a class? Will the school charge you for a transcript? Is it hard to get access to online course materials? What places nearby are receptive to postbacc volunteers, and will the school help me get these opportunities? , etc. Should've done this for undergrad...
