Apparently they’re not answering phones, not paying or authorizing procedures. My biller was directed to a website that doesn’t work. She tried sending a hard copy and got a fax back telling her to use the non functioning website. I’m assuming it’s COVID-related closings but now people are trying to refer their patients to me because they don’t want to deal with it anymore.

Take those patients and run. Fed worker's comp pays very well. Let me tell you a secret that took me a long time to figure out and I figured it out because I do my own billing but shhhh, don't tell anyone. It's not really COVID related and I don't remember the exact start date but they changed their rules. Prior to the change, they were accepting diagnosis codes that did not need to be exact. That is different now. They need the exact diagnosis codes. All you have to do is figure out which codes they have and bill those codes. When you do call and get through, ask them the correct ICD 10 code associated with the respective pt and use that for billing. You should be good to go at that point.

Better yet, completely avoid federal work comp. If lawyers avoid it, that's a pretty good indicator.
