I made the mistake of getting tracking for my app fee using USPS. Stupid online tracking service always return an error message. Why did I pay more for the service when it doesn't track anything at all?? Lesson learned. I will use UPS or FedEx next time.

I tried to call them, but they never pick up the phone so I can't verify whether they received my fee or not. Anyone heard from them recently?

nothing at all, emailed them to find out whether they received my payment, no reply. does anybody know when do they usually start inviting?

Darkwalk, it seems like we are the only ones applied to Howard 😀 less competition 👍 🙂)))) nobody replies

Sweet. But it would be very lonely with just you and me in the class. 😀

oh well, im sure we'll figure something out 😎

hope you guys dont hate me for being a third person applying to howard as well. it would be so sweet if all three of us getting an interview
yeah i sent my money order like a month ago, but still havent heard from the school. Ive been trying to get in touch with someone at school but the phone line is busy all the time 🙁

is there a secondary for this school? I don't think so right?? Thanks!

i havent heard anything either
grrr
just sent my check went i got the email..and nothing!
:scared:

This is one of the reason that I did not apply to either Meharry or Howard. I wrote an email to both schools about the URM and who belongs to it and what are the chances of students from other ethnic groups to get in and there was no reply.

I tried to call them more than 6 times and again, no reply.

That was it for me, if you are too busy to answer a simple question, how would u treat me as a student in future.

they wont need your and you are not VIP or MVP to any school there are over 6k who would take anything in a heart beat. cant believe a shah would do that...

I hope you are joking right. If you are not dude you have no common sense.

Out of your school list try calling the schools again to see if they pick up let alone ask such a non common sense question.

Try emailing the same question to the rest of the school... you will be surprised if you even get a single response.

Maybe you can answer this question then.

We all know that both Meharry and Howard have the lowest stat for their admitted classes ( GPA and DAT). Some people contribute that to the fact that they are getting more URM students and hence not paying much attention to the typical stats that other schools do . I am not sure how much truth is to that.

Now, the question is if you are not a URM, then what kind of GPA/DAT score makes you competitive for these two schools?

my friend (he's black) who got into Howard last year always used to joke about their standards. He said "if you have a number greater than zero for your GPA and you are black, it is guaranteed admission" lol...

Their tuition is so cheap as well!

i wonder if you friend has white people in class and with what stats they got in?

if you ask any school what makes you competitive they wont give you a straight answer, unless you are talking to the secretary. Where as an admissions people would say that they need to look at the whole application to determine competitiveness.

ps. just b/c a school has low stats that doesn't mean they will accept everyone.

.

In my experience, most schools ( be it admission person or a secretary)give you the average DAT and GPA for their admitted class of pervious years while tell you that there are more to the application than only your scores.

I don't think anyone here claimed that they accept everyone or their student are less deserving or ... I am sure they are getting the best students and their quality of teaching is the same as many other schools.

does URM only pertain to black or hispanic ppl ?

I haven't heard anything from the school either. The only way I could verify that the school received my check is that I saw a 75 dollar deduct from my bank account. so I gathered that they received my money and nothing else needed to be done until they contacted me?

ahhhhhhhhhhh i'm praying for an interview!!!!

I'm not trolling here.. I really want to know. Are they white friendly? Is it worth applying. The reason I ask is because the school is HBC. For instance, will a white candidate be given as much consideration with simular numbers as a URM. does this consideration differ from other schools in the US when it comes to URM vs non-URM status.

2007 figures: 34% are not URM, so it doesn't hurt to apply. I believe you will be compared against other non-URMs, so it's not a "backup" school.

If you want reliable data go to ADEA book or if you dont have one go to their site this data is available in chapter 3.

theyre not TOO bad in accepting white students. Meharry on the other hand is like 99 million percent african american (not URM, just african american).

Seriously though, howard accepts a good percentage of whites and asians. Meharry accepts like 1 white person every four years. I guess its to turn the tables around and give that one person the minority experience.

If you REALLY want to know the racial makeup of their classes, you can always venture to the facebook pages of their dental classes. ZERO white persons in meharry's 12, 13, and 14 class pages (of course not everyone in the class will have a facebook, but the vast majority does [just compare the class size to the number of people in the group to determine how many people may potentially be missing]). Howard has made their class pages private (smart) but I remember checking awhile ago and like 1/4 or so of every class were asian and there were like 5+ white people.

Take that for what its worth... in this case $150 in app fees.

Chech out table 3-1 for the data regarding gender, race and ethnicity etc...

Just called Howard and they did receive my check. Turns out USPS delivered my envelope and never updated their tracking system. I will never use USPS again for anything important.

good, so how long are they going to make us wait, they've been quiet for a while....🙁

Has anyone heard ANYTHING yet??? I finally got through on the phone today and she said my application was complete and she emailed me telling me so in August. I definately did not get an email in August, the only one I got was in June requesting money within 10 days. I asked when the committee would be meeting and going over app's and all she said was they stroll in and out and look at a few at a time if you get an interview I'll email you that too. So now I'm nervous cuz I never got the first 1?!?!?😱

I got an interview invite from them on September 29th for October 22nd. I'm not a minority however.

Are bi-racial African American/ Caucasian persons considered URM's?

Wait, you sent them a check already? I didn't send anything to them and all they said in their e-mail interview invite to me is to bring a 2 x 2 photo of myself. That's so strange...

You didn't pay but they still reviewed your app? I guess you are that good! I would bring a cashiers check to your interview and hand it to them. Good luck on your interview.

See the impression I got was that I only had to do anything(like pay fees) until someone from the school contacted me, well at least that is what the Supplemental Information PDF file said on AADSAS for Howard.

Thanks darkwalk.

i believe so. I think if you declare African/Black on your application you would be considered URM
