I read that UIC does not send out invites for interviews until early March. Has anyone heard anything from them yet?

Yea! I did! I got an email from them this morning. UIC is officially aware of me.

Did you get an interview with them? Or was it a "we got your app" letter?

No interview yet, just a "we got your application" email. They really don't start interviewing until MARCH?! 🙁

It was a "we got your app" email. They said they don't contact candidates for interviews until February. Ugh. That's such a long wait...

Chris, this is totally off subject but tell me about the location of UIC. I am what you could say "a small town girl" and UIC frightens me.. I decided that I wasn't going to apply next year but now I want to give it a chance. I just want to know your opinion on UIC.

All of Chicago is a very "neighborhood" oriented city. There are dividing lines that locals know about because they live there, that outsiders couldn't be aware of. UIC is split into two campuses. All of pharmacy/medical is on the west side. There are a slew of hospitals right there. You shouldn't be afraid of Chicago. It's always been known as the big city with a small town feel because the people are hard working folks that are completely approachable. It's nothing like New York or Los Angeles. Not to scare you, but every once in a while medical students are targeting by criminals if they are going home late at night and aren't paying attention to their surroundings (ie - wearing headphones). There are some bad areas right around the campus, but if you know to bring someone with you at night or avoid those areas, you'll be just fine.

I love small towns and lived in a few during my other college years. As soon as I'm done with Pharm school I plan on moving to a small(er) town. But if you have an opportunity to spend 4 years of your life in Chicago, I would highly recommend it. It's an amazing city with endless things to do; great museusm, a beautiful lake front, top notch restaurants, high class shopping (like we have the money!), we have theatres with blue man group (a must see), and smaller venues that bands play at. You'd have a lot of fun here... as well as get a top notch education.

Calrx,

UIC does not inform potential candidates regarding interview until late February/ early March. Most likely, the invite will be an e-mail.
