Hi everyone,

I have a question to those who are already in med school: Does anyone regret having chosen a more expensive and higher-ranked private school over a public school? (and vice versa?) Or are you convinced that you made the right decision? I'm battling with the question of attending a top-10 school or an unranked UC (Irvine or Davis)... not an easy one. Any insight would be very much appreciated.

Pick which ever one you feel most comfortable at!!!!!! I attend a private school and absolutely love it. No undergrads to compete with for: study space, fin aid office time, student affairs time, etc. My schools philosophy is centered around the medical student as a whole. I'm not saying that all State Schools don't do this, but my State school definitely did not. I imagine that not all private schools do this either. Your best source of information would be to try and get information from the current students at the schools you are trying to decide between.

Another bit of advice PICK WHICH EVER SCHOOL YOU FEEL MOST COMFORTABLE AT!!!!! Don't go to a school just because U.S. News says it is the best. It may give you a slight edge when residency application time roles around but your USMLE Step I is really what makes you competetive along with several other less important factors such as:extracurriculars, med school grades, LOR, etc. Which med school you graduate from just isn't really on the top of the selection list.
