I just scheduled an interview for Nov 11th(my first one! YEAH!! 😀 ) . I'm debating about how I should travel there(I live in NYC), where I should stay, etc. Anyone that already interviewed at Buffalo, any advice?

Also, are the interviews one-on-one or group? Nice staff?

I havent actually heard anyone that interviewed there from sdn. they're all in hiding. But if you're from NYC, I recommend flying up there.. otherwise, driving will take ~9 hours and bus definitely 9+ hours. good luck.

Buffalo is a good school. I went there two weeks ago to interview. I'm not from NY, but if you're flying into the city, I recommend staying @ the University Inn or whatever its called (they are the first recommended hotel on the list you recieved in your invite letter at the top of the page). The reason for this is that they have a shuttle to take you to the school and back, then to the airport when you leave. (This could save you $ in cab fare)

The interview seemed pretty laid back. It is not done in a group but you will be interviewed by two faculty members at once for 1/2 an hour. You'll prob be done at about 1:30 to 2:00. Consider this question: What does professionalism mean to you?

Good luck!

I'm sure you know this already, but check out JetBlue. You can sometimes find tickets from JFK to Buffalo for $50 each way. I go to school at Buffalo and the couple of times I've gone to NYC, I've flown JetBlue. Good luck.

I flew home (Buffalo) last week and found a flight on US Air out of LaGuardia. It was cheaper than the JetBlue flight leaving at the same time (and I got some miles!). Shop around. The Buffalo airport is really small compared to any of the NYC airports.

The airport is 15 minutes (20 minutes tops in traffic) from the school.

Thanks for the advice. I looked at JetBlue and 2 tickets(my mom is coming too) cost almost $400 😱 Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Where do you find $50 tickets?

Good stuff to know. Thanks!! 😀 I have a question about the shuttle bus. How often does it come? Did you call the school to ask for the schedule? How long did you stay at the hotel? Was it expensive?

okay.....usually jetblue raises their prices as the days get closer. i've flown usair twice to rochester (out of LGA) and talk about maddening. USAir is seriously almost always delayed because they fly the small puddle jumpers. i've told myself I will not be flying usair to rochester again! my advice is spend the extra bucks and fly jetblue and save yourself some grief (interviews can be stressful enough). **but don't get mad at me if somehow jetblue is delayed....the odds are that usair will be delayed before them though...

Question for those of you that interviewed at UB already...

Was there a lot of walking during the tour? like how's the campus? Was it from building to building or mostly in one? What's the interview day schedule? UB doesnt seem to provide that to you prior to the interview like some of the other schools...

I got the $50 ONE WAY tickets when I booked at least 14 days in advance, and I wasn't travelling at peak times (like on Friday afternoons or evenings). Buffalo is doing tours on Fridays now, so that is why you probably saw the higher priced tickets. When you try to fly at a peak time, they often jack up the prices to $100 each way. I always got my tickets at jetblue.com. I think that is the only place where you can buy tickets.

You can expect to do some walking outside during the interview, so make sure you bring a coat, because it's been cold here recently.

Last Friday, the tour group went to the Gross Anatomy lab in the afternoon where the first years (I am a first year) were in Gross Anatomy. I had the opportunity to talk with some of the interviewees and I told them how tough first year is! See if you can get your tour guide to do that.

Good luck.
