Hey...

I interviewed 11/1...Dr. Haight is very good at making you feel good about yourself as to why you were selected for an interview, and is also very honest about where they are in the selections process (how many seats available, whether he'll dip into a waitlist, etc.)

Stay at the Quality Inn, so that you can mingle with the other candidates in the morning.

Don't be too freaked out by the drive up to the campus. It's ugly, but once you get to campus, you forget about all that. The anatomy lab is first rate; probably it's one of the best in the country. Ask a lot of questions to your tour guide, and ask during interviews about third and fourth year rotations. Try to be interested in what others are saying during the group interview; interact with them and act as a peer.

Good luck to you, and if you decide to pick Touro, I'll see you in the summer!

Thanks for the great info.
I have actually already visited the campus (back in oct) and although its not like my current university...its not that bad.

I will be staying with my boyfriend who lives in SF the night before, but i was reading feedback and it said dr. haight goes to the quality inn hotel and talks to the prospective students...should i joint them before hand...or will i have enough time to talk to him on campus.

i really hope to see you in the summer...i defeintly want to be part of the class of 2010.

LOL---Only if you think that three continuous hours before the interviews is enough time to talk to him on campus!

I don't think he meets groups at the hotel anymore; at least, he didn't do that for our group.

The first three hours (9-noon) are Dr. Haight talking about where they are in the interview process, how many seats are left, how the interview is structured, and finally a warm-up session of how to comport oneself during the interview. This long session is punctuated by a half-hour financial aid session and there is a tour right before the actual interview.

Overall, I found the process to be very relaxing, and everyone seemed to feel good about themselves going into the actual interview.

I'm really excited about the upcoming year, but also nervous. Will I be able to hack it, etc.?

What are your other application prospects like? What are your stats like?

I'll be interested to see if he tells your group some of the same stuff he told us. For example, he said that since he hand-picks each interview candidate, he knows that everyone he picks will not only be a great physician, but some will be industry leaders as physicians. If THAT doesn't make your head swell, I don't know WHAT will! Good luck to you, and keep me posted on your progress!

bnoosha - are you planning to drive or fly up there? If you live in the OC, I suggest driving. It'll save a lot more money. I stayed at Quality Inn but did not see Dr. Haight until the interview date. Regarding the interview, I suggest brushing up on your medical ethics. Of the 5-6 questions I was asked, two were medical ethics. :luck:

Hey...thanks for your reply
i will defintly keep you updated about how things go...touro is my number one choice...i want to move up north (im in so cal right now)...b/c my boyfriend lives up there and we are pretty serious..and this long distance thing is kinda hard
i also applied to western...have an interview there on jan. 30thh
(i applied really late...my aacomas was complete mid november)
I wasn't planning to apply till june...but something compelled me to just give it a try and applied to 2 do schools

my stats are 3.77 cum gpa 3.76 sci...and my mcat is above average for do schools...lots of extra curriculars.

anyhow thanks for the great info...i wonder if dr. haight will tell us the same things.

wish me luck!

I am going to fly...i know it would be cheaper to drive..but i feel safer flying instead of driving for 6-8 hours by myself.

thanks for the advice i will defeintly read up on some medical ethics and important issues.

ill let you all know how it goes...

keeping my fingers cross 🙂
