Anyone know if Walgreens will hire you as a technician at 16?

Anyone familiar with Walgreens know if they'll hire 16 year olds as pharmacy techs as long as state laws allow it? I am almost positive that they do, but I want to make sure. My state does not require you to be 16 to register, so I am wondering if there is some sort of company rule.

Thanks!

It probably depends on the state, but I'm pretty sure that in New York you have to be 18 to work as a tech.

I am aware of the state requirements... I am asking about the company requirements. I am almost positive that you can work as a tech at 16. On their website, it says: "In most states, Pharmacy Technicians must be at least 18 years old." which leads me to believe that it is on a state-by-state basis and that there is no company age requirement.

I am hoping that someone who works for the company or who is knowledgeable about this will respond.

Walgreens requires a high school diploma or a GED of its techs. I am not sure about the age requirement.
What about those working towards a high school diploma? Also, are you sure that this is not because of requirements in your state that Walgreens must follow? I looked it up, and according to the NJ BOP (assuming thats the state you are in), the state requires that you have a high school diploma or GED, as well as being 18 years of age.

You must be 18 to be hired on as a technician. This is not to say that there are no 17 or 16 year olds working at Walgreens in the pharmacy but it is against store policy. Walgreens codes every position including pharmacy technician, photo technician, and manager. All these positions will not allow you to code a person if they are under the age of 18.

I was going to say this myself...

Even if its legal to work under 18 why would they want that? Why pick someone without a high school diploma when they can pick people with one?

Good point.

In my experience, I've become aware that one must possess a high school diploma/GED in order to work as a CPhT. Sorry, pasqpie.

Unfortunately Walgreens does not allow anyone under the age of 18 to step foot into the pharmacy regardless of state law. I had to start there at the front register for that reason myself. Once I turned 18 they changed my position to pharmacy technician.
