Hi,

I am a 3rd year FP resident in Chicago, IL. I want to do a one-month FP or OB rotation in Melbourne Australia in January 2005. Does anyone know of a physician / hospital I can setup a rotation?

Any help would be appreciated

I emailed Univ. of Melbourne last month to see what visiting elective options were. This was their response: (looks like obstetrics might be possible, scroll to the bottom)

Elective periods are formally offered at the following clinical schools:

1. Royal Melbourne Hospital/Western Hospital: vacancies April 2005
2. Austin and Repatriation Medical Centre: vacancies April 2005
3. St Vincent’s Hospital: vacancies November 2005

Please also note that the Royal Melbourne Hospital vacancies after April 2005 are in:

1. Feb - Mar: Opthamology and Urology
2. Apr - May: Trauma
3. Feb - Apr: Endocrinology

* Geelong Hospital may take elective placements on case by case basis between December and January.

Please note you must be in your final year or about to commence final year to be considered for elective placement in 2005 at one of the above hospitals. Elective attachments are usually between 4 to 8 weeks long maximum. Costs vary according to each clinical school's arrangements.

If you are not in your final year but have completed disciplines in Obstetrics, Gynaecology, and Neonatal Paediatrics, you may apply for elective placement at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. You could also apply for placement at the Department of Paediatrics. You can also apply for these placements if you are in final year. Places are very limited however, and often these clinical schools have filled their quotas 6 Ð12 months in advance.

The following are the website addresses for each of the main clinical schools if you would like to find out more about the hospitals:
