I am having trouble finding a video that shows someone in a manic state. I want to be able to use it for teaching purposes, but have had no luck. Is this HIPPA related or something else?

I had to find some samples for my "other" career. I was specifically looking for examples of flight of ideas.

Jump to around 7.20 and watch from there - patient named Sandra, detained under the mental health act, with a long term diagnosis of Bipolar disorder. I'm not sure if this adequately illustrates a full blown manic episode, because I would assume she's been given some sort of medication, but it does show things like pressure of speech, sudden outbursts of aggression, and so on.

1st is an actor I'm guessing? He's less intense than even Ricky Gervais.

2nd caused me distress to watch, made me wonder if she felt distress. Can you tell when a patient is in dysphoric mania based on they make you feel or is it more based on their symptoms?

3rd did not make me distressed, maybe because he was out of frame.

That third one made me think of something a rather grizzled older attending told me he used as a diagnostic question for mania with patients in an emergency setting:

"And what do you have to sing for us tonight?"

That would require a capacity evaluation at the time. When I've seen hospitals do this, typically for research processes, they get patient assent while manic or psychotic, then a fuller consent when less symptomatic.
