I won't be going, my entire family is all together for the first time in about 5 years and it's another state. I decided to drive out of town and open up the results on ERAS. I definitely feel a bit sad about not attending, but I guess I rather see my family then high five everyone.

Who else isn't going?

I'm not going. My spouse and I decided to spend the time together doing our own thing since we'll likely be making a big leap with the result.

I'll be going but just for the envelope...then gonna high tail it out of there for some quality time with my spouse then throwing a big party with all my (non-medical) friends =)

Not going 'cause we don't have one. DO school, and all that. Am having my own throw down at home with the wife and family. Then heading out for a nice dinner. Likely going to destroy St. Patty's Day too. Depends what the match is... 🙂

I also go to a DO school. We have a small match party for DO match (I think we also do the envelope thing but wasn't there since I applied allopathic) and people w/ friends in the DO match show up to cheer their friend on who were matching. and then we have the large match day together at noon then an evening party at a bar on Friday for both DO and MD match that our professors/attendings and likely dean will make an appearance at since they're very supportive.

I'm with digitlnoize and it kinda stinks that the DO schools don't have a celebration. But like digitl I'm having my own celebration with family, going out to dinner in the evening and enjoying the St. Patty's celebration this weekend! :luck:

not going, sleeping in instead. Wish I coulda skipped the white coat ceremony as well back in first year and pinning back in 3rd. Pompus pointlessness

What's "pinning?" We didn't do that.

We had a pinning ceremony freshman year but not a white coat ceremony. Basically it's a white coat ceremony where they place a pin on your coat. I'm not sure why there would be both. Maybe a congratulations for making it to clinical rotations?

I hated the white coat ceremony, but i"m looking forward to the match day one. The white coat thing was kinda like "welcome, you're now our b!tch for the next 4 years" whereas match day has a much happier connotation to me.

Sleep in? It's at NOON. Also, this is the only 'pompous' ceremony that matters. All of med school would be worthless (even the MD) if you don't get a JOB.

There are benefits to such ceremonies, tradition and community-building being chief among them.

When do we find out where we matched? It's past noon and I have not gotten any NRMP emails or been contacted from the program. Anyone know? I'm not going to the match day ceremony, and I thought people found out at noon?

^ It's up on the NRMP site at 1. Most ceremonies are conducted earlier, hence why many already know.

We find out at 1 pm EST

I'm not going. I'll have to travel in excess of 5000 miles just for that.

Now that match is over, I'm just curious if any of you regret not being there?

We don't do one, but part of me wishes we did. At the same time, I think it's horribly, horribly unfair and tortuous to the people who didn't match or who got something lower on their list that they're not super happy with. Salt meet wound.

If we had one, I probably would have gone just to see my friends, beach it in Florida, and move my stuff out of storage. As it stands, I miss my friends, I miss my beach, and I'll have to go down soon to move our stuff, at which point I will be happily beaching it.

They don't make the people who didn't match reveal it on stage at anywhere I know of.
