Anyone see the BLS Update today? Predict job losses between 2018-2028

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
wait, does that say -100 in employment changes? Lol how is that even possible?! Good lord. Sucks for all the new grads. For real. All you pre pharms, find another profession.

Considering that Walgreens had layoffs last year and Walmart had layoffs this year, is more contraction that surprising?

That means that the rate of change for jobs as it stands TODAY is already net negative. Lol bring out the popcorn, folks.

But it's their passion!

Ugh. Now we have hard data backed by the govt to prove pharmacy has poor job prospects. I really hope the smart and wise ones will listen to our pleas not to pursue a pharmacy profession.

can you get an MBA without a bachelor's and just a pharmd?

if i fill out forms and i have no bachelor's and just pharmd, do i put i have a masters or phd or...high school diploma. haha

seriously tho.

It's just really unfortunate.
Look at the other healthcare jobs, PTs, OTs, RNs, all with 10-20%+ job growth.

It's not going to surprise me in 10 years to reach salary parity with all of those careers.
Nominal $90k/year salaries.

I really think this is the 5 alarm signal for current practitioners. Need to make significant financial changes and decisions in regards to future planning. Reduce debt, increase emergency fund, keep the old cars, no new houses. Continue to make hay while the sun shines, but see those clouds on the horizon.

I'm still driving my 11 year old Honda with 170k miles. Meanwhile my former classmates financed new luxury vehicles and still have over 6 figures of student loan debt 5 years out. They're gonna get hit hard.

I did without a bachelors. Not sure it was worth anything. YMMV.:shrug:

We give preference to hiring our residents and we already cannot keep all of them. Looking forward, we only have a handful of pharmacists who will likely retire in the next 5 years too and nobody is leaving because nobody wants to move to take a significant pay cut at a new job. I'm in one of those rural areas where all these new grads think there will be tons of jobs. Yeah, no. There are just so many graduates now.

When I took a new job last year I told myself it would likely be the last new position I take for years. Maybe for the rest of my career. It's a shame, because up until now I had enjoyed the privilege of being able to move to any city in the country and obtain a reasonably high paying job.

If you have a decent job then it's time to hold on tight. Things are going to get real messy once you see the word recession on the news every day.

Ya MBA is even more worthless than pharmacy or law degree.

At least mine has a data analytics concentration. I feel confident I could take that and make 70-80k somewhere if this all blows up.

But the whole degrees really not doing anything for me currently.

We should mail this, both physically and electronically, to every dean of pharmacy in the nation. Then post the responses. At least we'll have a laugh while the ship goes down.
You won’t get a response lol

Don’t ever become a professor or a preceptor of a pharmacy school.

Pretty dumb advice when that is the only jobs for pharmacists that have openings in many areas. I still vote we need to open up our own Student Doctor Pharmacy School. I don't want to be Dean though, just a professor, I could teach Medicinal Chemistry, I got A's in that in school. (Though, is that even still a class in pharmacy school? )

I'll be a professor at SDN Pharmacy school. Will pre-record my lessons and have them broadcasted since most kids don't even listen to lectures and watch the recorded ones anyways. I'll sit at home and let the money flow in.

You may be onto something though... Maybe we can just keep opening up schools every couple blocks from one another and become remote professors and just continue to pump out more pharmacists and it'll be an on-going cycle. I'll be retired by the time they realize they need to do something.

Let's do to these pharmacy schools what Amazon has done to retail. Completely online pharmD, no brick and mortar buildings necessary. We will underbid the students the way Michael Scott Paper Company underbid Dunder Mifflin.

I guess one day I’ll see an online ad.

“Complete your PharmD online in as little as 2 years!”

Undercut every school. Have 300 students or even more, and make a quick million in 4 years. Preach about the pharmacist shortage using old data (heck our president does that..lol)

Also make all the IPPE and APPE into preprogrammed VR sessions!

I'm going to set myself apart by getting an advanced degree and networking at professional meetings.
