Just for fun.....
Include Licensed Naturopathic Physicians as primary care providers in the Federal Healthcare Law (Obamacare). (Didnt use proper name for the act)
Licensed naturopathic physicians should play an integral part in patient access to alternative medicine within the Federal Healthcare Law (Obamacare) as they serve as primary care physicians within the complementary health care field. (Im not even sure this is real english.....)

With Americans spending over $34 billion dollars ( dollars dollars?)spent annually on alternative medicine, the inclusion of licensed Naturopathic physicians would offer patients the option of seeking alternative medicine care covered by insurance AND provide access for those currently unable to afford care. No better way to reign in out of control government health spending like tacking on expensive placebo coverage.

Licensed Naturopathic physicians are able to diagnose and treat both acute and chronic disease (no they are not)and are experts in nutrition, herbs, and other holistic therapies(probably fair....so long as they admit that I am an expert in napping, coffee poops, and writing my own name. Learn more about licensed Naturopathic physicians at http://www.naturopathic.org.

There is little to no chance for thing thing gaining traction, but I am just amazed at the dichotomy that exists for these people. We complain about out of control spending and then talk about tacking on coverage for worthless treatments and common sense practices. Rant over..... just needed to post something very sarcastic about this to vent the pressure and keep my brain from exploding.

Well...this is just lovely.

But I agree; I believe this has as much chance of gaining traction as the Young Secessionists actually being able to secede from the Union.

rofl. itll never happen. if it does i can probably retire, as it will be abundantly clear the public isn't interested in healthcare so much as they are feeling warm and fuzzy about pseudoscientific trends.

petitioning the feds is the wrong approach. medical licensure is handled on a state by state basis by their own medical boards.

but not medicaid reimbursement. IIRC, NDs are currently licensed in a few states, but that is for "practice" only. This doesn't mean that they can bill insurance or medicaid. Federal acknowledgement would give them the ability to get reimbursed and therefore potentially expand their client base in the states in which they are alowed to practice.

Here is the thing that gets me... as NATUROpathic "doctors" (couldnt bring myself to not put that in quotes) or Noctors (or is that for DNPs? cant remember...) they are not trained in pharmacology, nor would they be expected to use such therapies. Yet they are looking for oficial recognition and in some cased prescriptive rights. How do they justify wanting Rx rights when their pharm courses include nothing but OTC and garden products? Might as well say "but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night" as their major argument 😕 At best these people are looking to run dietary health clinics so it is beyond me why they want to see people who are actually sick... If they did get full licensure and the ability to bill insurance, I would suspect they would all get the pants sued right off of them as they try to manage chronic illness with snake oils and outdated methods. Their niche is only viable so long as the people going to see them were not in any immediate trouble to begin with.

Well I guess this type of legislation is the only way to have enough 'providers' under Obamacare. First chiropractors, now naturopaths...Dentists are more qualified to be PCP's than them.

Seriously. If anything like this ever happens I'll probably drop out of school or retire and sit in my room and cry at how stupid America is that legislators think some dude who spent a couple years learning how to strain herbs into a teapot is somehow equivalent to my level of training.

Hehe nice one.

On a side note. Obamacare seems to be a good thing for the US!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....this just made my day

The missing spaces in your signature is irritating me.

Anything that can be shortened to Noctor (DNPs and Naturopathic "doctors") shouldn't be given physician SOP.

Let's at least make it half a victory I guess. I'd trust DNPs more than a naturopathic.

agreed. The hierarchy of fauxctors:

PA > DNP > DC >>>>>>>>>> ND

If a perfect society with a unlimited budget to healthcare, absolutely naturopathic medicine should be given coverage. But in today's model, we are focused on curing diseases, using drugs, surgeries, palliative care rather than preventative medicine. In medical school, no emphasis is given in preventative medicine nor nutrition. It's big money, big business in keeping people sick that naturopathic medicine has no place in America.

Our north american diet is a culprit in making people sick. Think about it. Americans are getting sicker and sicker each year, obesity rates are going up, same diabetes, cancer, depression. Ever wonder why?
