For those of you moving far away from home to attend medical school in the Fall, will you be brining your car with you? If you have any experiences with having your car shipped, which companies or methods do you recommend? I'm planning on shipping my car, but hear that its rather expensive to do so.

hey, yeah i transported my car from west virignia to california when i moved out here, it only cost $750 (which is really good) and I think i shipped from a company that began with an "A"...not sure of the name, something like A1 Trannsport or something .I suggest typing in "car shipping companies" on google and getting a quote from several places. If you are shipping, you definitely should NOT have to pay more than $1000 unless its the longest distance possible, like from Seattle to Miami beach or Maine to San DIego or something. Good luck

i can't imagine why you wouldn't drive your car....

cant you drive your car to you new found home?

I was thinking of shipping my car from Texas to NJ which was going to cost be a little over $750. They also said I could not load more than 100lbs of stuff in the car (I wanted to put some furniture in it). But I decided to drive instead.

Hi - I'm an unpaid volunteer on the consumer advocacy website www.MovingScam.com. Just a note that you have to be very careful in choosing an auto transporter. Some websites, such as the first one listed above, are nothing more than brokers that pass along your name to companies that pay for leads and may not be the best choice. And not much is known about Autolog, an auto transporter whose website is listed above. Some "review" websites like www.auto-transport-reviews.com are also suspect because certain companies have a heap of rave reviews that could be bogus.

On MovingScam.com, we have a whole thread on the subject that contains bona fide reviews and comments from many people over a long time period - http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1470 The last page of that thread is particularly useful because it has a recent post by "naomi" outlining some things to do in order to get the lowest possible quote from a reliable company. Although there can be delivery delays and other problems with any auto transporter, the two companies with the best reviews on MovingScam.com are Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS) at www.dasautoshippers.com and Tn'T at www.tnt-inc.com.

Anyone is welcome to come over to the message board on MovingScam.com to ask our volunteers for free advice about moving 24 hours a day. Incidentally, most reputable auto transporters won't permit you to load anything in the car unless you're using an enclosed carrier, which is quite expensive.
