hey guys,
sorry i keeep bringing up this post again and again...but it is the one thing that worries me the most. Anwyays i am applying for Psych and do not intend on doing the AOA internship year, yet I still would love to stay in Florida!
My question is to any current residents who were in the same boat and succeeded in petitioning the AOA to accept the PGY-1 Allo year as equivalent. I went to the AOA website and looks like the requirements they need in order to get it waived, 1 month Ob, 1 month ER etc.,.. is not possible during the PSych residency
Anwyays my other friend said another thing to try is to keep attending AOA seminars etc... and that may help
So for all u seasoned vets out there
Shed some light and insight to a nervous MS4

peace

Hi Do-Riz,
There were at least a couple of DO psych residents at Univ of Miami/Jackson Mem Hosp that got the AOA requirement waived on the basis of there not being an AOA approved psych residency anywhere near where they were able to go because of family needs.
I don't have the contact info for these DO psych residents but you can contact UM/JMH Dept of Psych and ask for the contact info.
Also, if you're going to NSU they should be able to provide info and assistance (one of the DO psych residents was a grad from there).
Peace.
