I think I would have kicked my own ass for asking that question in high school or college for that matter. But I learn by writing things down (sucks but true)

I am starting MS1 in August and wonder if people have tried this, and has it worked for you? If so do you just type them in word?

Thanks

all depends on how fast the lecturer talks and if we have a handout for the lecture or not...

it totally depends on the lecturer. for example, in Hem/Onc our couse coordinator loved to present info in an outline format (eg 10 risk factors for cancer, signs and symptoms of multiple myeloma, etc) but he didnt use powerpoints, he just talked. so it was much more convenient and faster to use microsoft word to type out what he was saying rather than writing it. its really easy if you set up the document in Word as having bullets or numbering (format menu).

its rare for me to do this though, like i said it totally depends on the lecturer. most lecturers will provide powerpoints at my school and so i just tend to write notes on the slides or in the margins. some people download the powerpoint files in advance and then take notes in powerpoint during lecture. i like to circle and point arrows at things so this doesnt work for me.

I often (but not always) took notes on my laptop during MS1/2 since I can type at least as fast as if not faster than I write. Just be sure that the keyboard isn't noisy or it'll annoy your classmates. 🙂

I used MS Word. I didn't do typed notes for classes that had really good handouts/lecture outlines.

I like pencil & paper myself.
Some people choose the tablet PC option... the best (or worst) of both worlds.
Be flexible. Try a few different things. See what works best with different lecture styles, especially depending on provided lecture notes/available scribe notes/how much you go to class.
I've also found that I learn best when I write things out myself. For me this means scribbling all over printed powerpoint notes (which we are provided with) during lecture, then going home & re-organizing everything the way that makes the most sense to me, and typing or writing up my own notes.

I think it totally depends on the format. For powerpoints, you can type in that little box for notes at the bottom of each slide and I think this is a great way to study. If your prof doesn't do powerpoints, I think its tough to keep up and it feels like its less structured on a computer. On paper you can draw all kinds of stuff quickly connecting points but on a computer this may be tougher.

off topic but am I handicapped because I type extremely slowly
