There's a free training course (for residents) in NYC on Nov 18th that I'm thinking of attending. But...

I'm still waiting on my state medical license. I'll get the DEA after that. The course registration asks that I give them my medical license number and DEA#. If I don't provide it now, will I still be eligible for the waiver from the Dept. of Health and Human services for the special registration requirements defined in DATA 2000?

The course itself satisfies the 8hour DATA 2000 training requirement.

OPD? You might know the answer to this...

Yes--if you take the course now, you will be able to use your proof of attendance to get the waiver attached to your "real" DEA# after you get it.

I hope you attend the course. It's a good program even if you don't end up treating that much opioid addiction. (Although I know that you get PLENTY!)

Great info, thanks. I'll most likely attend. I signed up online, so we'll see how it goes. I'm still waiting for all my credentials to be verified so that I can get my license. Not a minute too soon, either, with Medicaid now refusing to pay for resident prescriptions....unreal, and a real PITA for those of us still waiting on our own DEAs.

I did the course last year - wasn't bad, but I was already well acquainted with "the bupe". The credit lasts forever, so you can get your DEA and wait a while to apply for your "X" number. Definitely worth getting it for free while you're a resident though.

OPD, I'll have to rethink this.

I need all the free Saturday's I can get...

Did you take the course? Was it worth it compared to the online version?

I tend to learn better on my own, at my own pace, with appropriate music and fermented beverages handy anyway.

Of course, I have to reinvent the environment to recall the information, but what the hell...

I took the course, but then again, I'm a learn-better-sitting-in-a-room-and-getting-force-fed-information-while-keeping-well-caffeinated-and-carbed-up
kind of guy...
I haven't looked at the online materials lately.
