My plan for the upcoming MCAT test is to score a 42/52. I figure that ten mistakes is reasonable.

E-mcat.com usually scores a 42/52 as a '10'. Do you guys think this is an accurate assessment? It seems a little low.

Thanks in advance and I'm looking forward to your input!

That seems about right, probably close to breaking 11 with that score. Keep in mind that the raw score -> scale score conversion will be different for each test when you take the real thing. It varies with difficulty. Missing 10 questions on one particular exam may not be the same numerical score as missing 10 questions on another.

My advice is to set your goal based upon a scaled score, not a raw x/52 score.

Study hard, and good luck!

Haha, it's a little hard to base my goal on a scaled score when I don't know what a scaled score will look like!

I just wanted some input, since when I take a AAMC practice, I don't know if I did well or not since I have no idea how my raw score will translate on a scale.

But thank you for the input! I can't believe 42/52 is roughly a 10. And that's minimum for a competitive MCAT score of 30!

Its steep in the higher numbers, like for example 3 (45/52) more questions right and you most likely got a 12.
There are only about 8-10 hard questions on any test, so if you get all the easy and medium questions, and get half of the hard questions correct, youre looking at like a 13....of course, easier said than done.
This is especially true for the verbal, since there are only 40 questions, and about 4 of them are "hard" the key to doing well on this section is getting all the easy and medium questions right.
