Anyone who took physics over the summer and got into a top med program?

Will top med schools look down on my application if I take calc-based physics over the summer at a college that is lesser known and significantly less rigorous than my current university? I'm basically doing it so I can graduate a semester early and save a ton of money. I should also be able to get my credits from my summer physics class to transfer to my current school, which is a premed powerhouse, so will that help my case a little bit?

Tbh I took O chem over the summer (at my home institution). I did take intermediate O Chem later because I like pain, but that was after my apps were in. If you do well in all your pre-reqs and take most of them at your school in the fall/spring, you will be fine. I had multiple acceptances. Nobody said anything.

I took both gen chem and physics as summer courses and have gotten into a couple of top schools. It has never once come up in interviews! Good luck!

I heard you could only take one science course over the summer and that taking two would look really bad as your taking two/four science courses over the summer.... did you take any upper level science courses during the year before you applied?

No upper level courses. I might be sort of an exception because I wasn't premed from the start so I had to play catch up and summer classes were the easiest (and least expensive) way to do that. Not saying everyone should do this, it just worked out okay for me! I did really well in my regular term science classes so it's possible med schools didn't care because I clearly wasn't just trying to get out of taking the harder version during the year at my school.

Why are people pre-emptively concerned about getting into a "top" program? Like you don't even know if you can get into a regular program...

Welcome to SDN, where everyone plans on a 3.9+ / 35+, publications and truly special essays.

OP - you're fine. It is really unlikely to come up and if it does you have a good reason for it. As long as you had strong science grades at your more intense main university nobody will care.
