As a paramedic and a nurse I was just curious to see if anyone from either of these backgrounds had gone on to DO? I've got 11years in EMS and 3 in ER nursing. Everything from flight to education. Let me know your thoughts.

Bryan Bledsoe, DO, NREMT-P is a well known emergency physician and researcher. There are two DO's here who got their start as allied health providers....one was an RN at Cook County in Chicago, the other was a paramedic.

there are many in my class with pre-hospital backgrounds, a few with nursing, at least one PA. I'm a medic myself (13 years experience). This has been discussed before... check the prehospital forum as well.

good luck.

15 years as a paramedic when I apply.

RN for 3.5 years in in-pt level 1 trauma center- peds floor/PICU. Starting LECOM-Br next year, but was also accepted to AZCOM and NSU- I applied to four schools and withdrew app from PCOM-Ga after my interview invite. Good luck.

in 3rd year of pharm school almost stated rotations! and interview on lmu-dcom on the 5th!

Formerly a career firefighter/paramedic for 9 years. Current MS-IV at LECOM and interviewing at Anesthesia residencies.

RN for 3.5 years. Work in open heart surgery. Accepted to several DO and one MD school.

I was a medic for four years and had about eight years of EMS when I applied to schools. There were a couple students in our class that were also medics and gobs of EMTs. Sadly, I think I am going to let my license lapse this year since I haven't had time to do any field work in the last year or so. However, there has been plenty of time to teach so that's how I keep my ties with the prehospital world now.

Andy, OMS III
KCOM Class of 2008

I was a Firefighter/Paramedic for 6 years before starting at LECOM this year.

Not nursing or EMT, but will have 13-15 years of Respiratory Therapy when I apply.

RN x 16 yrs (ER, med/surg, psych/ substance abuse, home care, case management)

Licensed Acupuncturist x 5 yrs (mostly private practice)

Started med school in Carib, but came back to my "senses", and applying D.O
most likely for 2008 now.

good luck 😀

I've been a paramedic about 3yrs, in EMS for about 5. Hopefully I'll be applying in two years. One question, when applying do we report our grades from paramedic school. For instance, I did mine at a community college and ended up with great grades from that (it would really help me to report these). If we do report them, are they calculated in with our GPA?

Paramedic for 5 years, EMT-B for 2 years prior to that. I will be taking the MCAT in April or May then applying to enter 2008(hopefully). Good Luck everyone. 😀

Currently a first year RN - Cardiothoracic ICU.

MD Applicants below....

I'm a paramedic myself, 12-14 years medical experience with 10 or 11 in EMS. I loose count after a while. I have interviewed at OSU, just waiting now. 😕

Can some of you RNs post your MCAT and GPA stats with your posts as well?
I am a BSN student that is considering my options after I graduate, cant decide between CRNA school or D.O. school, and would like to see some stats from RNs accepted to D.O. schools.
