I see that several programs have interview deadlines past the deadline for entering our Rank Order Lists (1/28/11). Some even as late as March and into the summer. Are these misprints? If not, of what value is it to interview past the ROL submittal deadline?

An unrelated question: For new programs (first or second year) what pitfalls could there be in joining an intern class where there are no senior residents. Is that far riskier than joining an established program?

I'm only an M3 but I'm doing my rotations at a hospital with a 2-year-old residency program. From what I have heard from the residents, the main issues have been with attendings and patients adjusting to having residents around. It's a small community hospital and some of the private patients don't want anyone but their own doctor in the room. The other problem I've noticed is that the PD is under a lot of stress keeping everything organized between a new residency program and new rotation programs with multiple schools. I'm not sure how that really effects the interns and residents though, beyond the fact that the PD has stated that he would much prefer to have residents who rotated here for multiple months/all year over people he doesn't know. That is likely the case for most programs though, so I don't know how much that matters.
