Hey everyone, I'm currently a junior and next year I'm planning on taking AP Physics and AP Chem. I'm also taking:
AP Stat
Dual Credit Gov and Eco
Photography
Dentistry class

I'm not really planning on taking the AP tests for Physics or Chem because I don't want to get credit in college and then miss out on that class because I know AP classes don't really cover as much as college classes do. So I guess I'm just taking Physics and Chem for the groundwork.

I was wondering if maybe the classes I'm taking will be too hard and I might need to drop AP Physics or AP Chem. So far, I plan to do something in dentistry and I was wondering which class should I drop if worse comes to worse?

What are you going to major in? If it's a biological science, then you'll be taking lots of chemistry in college anyways, and taking the AP class could give you a good grounding in it. Or it could just be a waste of time if you're just going to go over it all again in college. On the other hand, sometimes the lower level physics, biology, chemistry, and engineering courses are considered "weed out" courses, or at the very least are a lot harder to get A's in than the upper level courses.

There's also this little bug that floats around in high schools called senioritis. Only infects seniors, and is pretty contagious. Loading up with those courses may seem like a good idea now, but it might not be a couple months before graduating.

Just a few things to consider.

I agree with the other post. It really depends on what your major is going to be. If you are going to need to take calculus based physics(Generally for engineers, but some schools require it for biology), I would strongly recommend taking the physics. This would give you a firm understanding of the topics, so you will have an advantage over others.

However, if you think you do not need the calc-based physics, then I would encourage you to take the chemistry. As the other answer noted, you will need this much more than physics. I saw a lot of devasted gpa's because of calc-based physics.

Hey! I've taken both AP Chem and AP Physics in high school, and I really liked both. I recommend Physics more than Chemistry, however, because it helped me to "think outside the box," whereas Chemistry wasn't as involved, in my opinion. Regardless, if you can take both, I strongly recommend it as well because they offered a tremendous help in college. I don't study as much as other students in Chemistry, for example, and I end up with As across the board.
