Apache Indian is the reason I am doing Radiology!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I would seriously consider derm, but I am too pretty for that.........

When I was a premed reading this forum Apache Indian almost had me going into Rads too.

Lol, you too. I'm a premed [recently accepted] I hope Rads is really as good as Apache Indian makes it sound. lol, and I wanted to be a surgeon before... pffffft like thats any kind of life.

Wouldn't it be funny if Apache Indian wasn't even a radiologist?

As much as I love radiology and think its one of the best specialties around, I think you would be doing yourself a disservice if you did not give all the specialties a close look. Don't let your dean, or Apache for that matter, brain wash you. Do your homework and come to your own conclusions.

Though we may not always see eye to eye, I can attest that Apache is most definitely a radiologist.

Aww man, I had the geekiest idea for an homage to everyone's favorite Gay-Spiderman-Avatar-having Native American. I was going to register an account with the member name "ApacheInfiltrate"... which I just find hilarious in so many ways. But alas, the character limit on SDN is just one character too short for my comedy.

C'est la Vie.

Be very wary of what you read from "super residents" on an anonymous message board. Please look at all fields of medicine. I don't know this apache fellow, and he may -- very well -- be the most studly money-making resident ever to grace message boards anywhere.

And he very well may be a pedophile named Rico who lives in the Bronx.

Apache may be rude, aggresive, he may even sound as a person who's full of hate...but I totally agree with him on this one.

Apache I know that the doubts regarding your existance aren't important, I just hope you're real becuase lying is something awful, Im basically a good person and I don't know you, so if you tell me honestly that you are real, I believe you.

Apache has brainwashed me.

Is radiology still a blisteringly competitive residency to gain admission to? Are there fewer residencies for DO students who have only taken the COMLEX?

...and will DO schools accept physics taken over the internet?

Man that's funny. You should have been a stand up comedian.

The point really isn't whether I'm "real" or not. In reading my posts one can adopt one of two stances:

1. Write-off everything I've said I've done (which I find a bit suprising is so unbelievable to you) as fictitous and impossible.

If you accept this point of view you can accept mediocrity without hurting your own ego. "After all, Apache is FOS and doing anything more than what I'm doing is impossible, so I might as well just chill out."

2. Assume what I have said to be true (whether it is true or not is irrelevant) -- maybe even let yourself be a bit inspired by it -- study harder, set goals higher, sacrifice, and strive to excel/exceed me and others. Say to yourself "Heck if that goof-off Apache can do it I can too! I can do it better than him!"

So put aside for one second the question of whether I'm real or an imposter. Which stance do you think is more conducive to your success in life?

I say be wary of the naysayers -- there are a lot of mediocre people in this world -- those who like to keep others down with them at the proletariat level. DO NOT listen to them. Strive to EXCEL and EXCEED and WIN. You only live once people...
apache, you speak words of wisdom, I  to you. I am starting med school this year and you really inspired me. I am looking really closely at rads since I am very visual and a total technology freak.

Keep up the good work👍

It doesn't matter to me how successful you are. People who are *truly* successful don't need to spew salary numbers on an anonymous message board -- that is, unless they need the approval of pre-meds.

🙂

Err... I thought it was blatantly obvious that I'm real -- that's why I didn't/don't feel the need to make such a declaration -- simply put I would feel extremely silly doing such a thing.

But for the naysayers out there: I AM REAL. hehe You don't believe it? Fine, I could care two hoots what you believe and what you don't -- have a nice, average life.

I for one believe that ApacheIndian is actually an online scripted 'bot that has been pre-programed with auto-replies since 2002.

Despite all this, whoever scripted ApacheIndian's responses must have been exceptionally talented at marketing since his responses have thoroughly convinced me to pursue radiology as well as purchasing a set of Ginsu steak knives.

apacheindian that was impressive. "hoi polloi"...i haven't heard that since AP English way back in the day. 👍

You guys crack me up.

Premeds and med students: Contrary to popular belief, brown-nosing, or performing simulated sexual acts on radiology residents on an anonymous forum does not help you get into a radiology residency.

Doing well on standardized exams, doing well academically and being pleasant to work with will take you much farther.
👍

Whoa, REALLY? 😱

Well then wtf am I wasting my time here?

bzzzzzt!!!

I wanted to respond to his previous posts regarding academic faculty like Hans publishing "useless" papers. What he neglects to realize is that future innovations and research are what drive the field and thus reimbursements. Without academic radiologists, the field would remain static while existing imaging protocols continue to face cuts. Everyone knows that new imaging innovations will initially be highly reimbursed and thus allow salaries to be sustainable. These innovations are what will allow him to continue his "baller" lifestyle.

apacheindian is, sadly, spending too much time forming an "alliance" on an anonymous message board.

He should be out MOONLIGHTING and making the BIG BUCKS!!!

Man you have no idea how tough it is for me to resist these 5K weekends and instead study for these stupid boards -- I feel like I'm flushing money down the toilet... but alas, a little delayed gratification is needed right now -- it's crunch time. But have no fear, I have some schweeet gigs lined up for right after I take my exam -- stuff that'll make the work I've done so far look like child's play. Stay tuned

I apreciate your honesty so I'll ask this questions (hope you answer with the truth like allways): Is there another motivation in your life besides money? Do you have any other interests or pasions?
Good luck with those gigs, man.

I'm pretty sure he does since its hard in some cases to enjoy the money if you don't have a hobby to spend it on. He likes money (who doesn't?) and is honest about it.

Hello Everyone,

Im finnishing my aa and I have finally chosen a career path, and that's in RAD.,

The question is basic, I enjoyed reading film in the Navy along side MD's, and I hear its good paying field where right now you almost make your own way.

Heres my approach, go to school, become radiologist, because it gives you the most money for your education, and the field is in high demand.

Can anyone give me insight on the hours worked, the quality of life, the responsibility, the ins and outs of the field.

I live in Tampa, FL and Im hoping to go to Univ South Fl, for Med school, and SPC for my premed (I hope to have my AA by the summer).

Bad idea. Bad. Bad. Bad.

There are much quicker and cost-effective ways to make money. Paying for 4 years of medical school with a sole field in mind is not one of them.

And you never know what's going to happen in those 4 years of craziness

I have to be honest...I like them both, however, women ar by far, a way stronger motivation...👍
I like other things also, like music, but women...that's on another level.

Supercars go down in value every year s/p purchase
Women who love you for money are a "dime a dozen," please pardon the pun.

🙂

Sure, I didn't say I was motivated by women who will love me for a supercar, I said I was motivated by both women and supercars (these I like but Im not that pasionate)

Sorry, your logic escapes me.

But good luck with both women and supercars!!! I prefer to think of the former outside the confines of my specialty and $$$$, but that may just be my quirks! 😉

Sooo...tell me bigfrank...aren't you one of those rads residents living 1980's/Wall Street style??? How come??? You should be grabing the big bucks too!! That's the good stuff!!

No, seriously, money isn't the most important thing in the world but if I had to make a choice between different jobs, I would DEFINETLY consider it, and I mean it.

I choose NOT to discuss my finances on an internet message board. But, if I did choose to, I would DEFINITELY spell correctly.

😉

Oh c'mon man, you criticized my spelling in the uro forum, and I gave you an explanation there already, but I'll post it here just in case you don't get to read the uro forum:
Im costarrican, learned english in high school, but haven't been using it on a regular basis. Im not even sure if I spelled this sentence right, please excuse my spelling mistakes, you're gonna notice them for a while (forever) 😀

ooohhh -- BigFrank... Mr. Maturity -- we should all learn a lesson from him

(hehe -- what a joke)

All specialties, including the ones that generally have the more laid-back practictioners like rads and gas -- are gonna have their Mr. Rogers types like BigFrank. Nothing wrong with that. Remember, by definition, most people are average. Resale value and "true motivation" for women??? HAHA, that's classic haha!

A few might call doing a locums gig in the backwoods in a highly litigious gulfcoast state (somewhere between Texas and Florida), making 'big' money (because no 'above average' radiologist who actually had a choice of jobs would actually want to work there)--
a few might call that exceptional, but most would consider it an act of desperation. I suppose if I were stuck in the piney woods, I too, might be fantasizing about cars and women just to help me get through the day.

We will all likely be very successful in our promising careers. Just try not to come across as too flashy, because one day you may have to take the stand as a defendant-- whether you were right or wrong the only thing the jury is likely to remember about you is that you once said that 'all patients should be shot' and how much money you love to make.

Discretion is the better part of valor.

Well put hans, as usual.

It is so sad that apache comes on here and brags to medical students. I truly pity him.

With the kind of egotistical and narcissistic rantings of this madman, every poster by comparison is going to seem tame.

I will not stoop to apache's level and discuss finances...on an anonymous message board! That is so sad!!!

🙂

I'm in the Los Angeles area and fantasizing about the women I'm going to try to hit on this weekend is about the only thing that gets me threw my internship. That and the fact I get to do what I really enjoy in few more months.

This post is meaningless. You need to make several worthless and unsubstantiated claims regarding crazy money in dermatology.

And if you're smart about it, you will use the car as your daily driver to squeeze every penny out of it. 😉

Not gonna waste time on losers.

Remember people: the bourgeois always criticize the elite. The elite ignore them as they have better things to do. Do I respond to vagabonds yelling obscenities to me on the steet? Of course not. You have to decide for yourself: Are you gonna be a member of the proletariat or are you gonna be a star? You can either sit around and make excuses why you can't do this or that, or you can simply go out and make things happen, come hell or high water. The choice is yours.

peace

People who resort to name-calling are sad.

People who brag about $$$ on an anonymous messge board -- even sadder.

Sometimes you can't respond, because you have no response.

And sometimes the bourgeois criticize other bourgeois that masquerade as elite.

You seem to be confused about Marx. Whether you make 350K or 700K, if you have a profession and you have to work for a living you are still a Petit Bourgeois.

Peace

you are my hero, apache! 😍

MAN CRUSH!!! 😱
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

What do an army recruiter and a used car salesmen have in common? They'll tell you exactly what you want to hear and nothing that you don't want to hear. Sometimes they exaggerate.

you say what many people think but don't have the onions to say

And when the truth is tough to swallow (no pun intended), some people don't have the onions to listen.

The reality is that the radiology job market is tightening and the best jobs are drying up. The lucrative-sounding jobs in less-than-desirable places are a dime-a-dozen. But if you read the fine print, there is a reason why these full-time positions can't be filled and hospitals sometimes have to subsidize these positions to make them more palatable.

Very nicely put.

Dr.Cuts!!!

why did you switch from gas to rads? Why did you switch your ID? I'm just curious.

And what exactly does apache have to sell here, on an anonymous internet board?

Doublecortin et al:

Don't pay any attention to geeks like BigFrank and Hans -- while it's true that in general radiology is a specialty of amiable, laid-back personalities, unfortunately it still is medicine, and we still have our share of dweebs. While we used to make fun of them, throw spitballs at them, and put "Kick Me" signs on their backs in junior high, we should probably just ignore them now.

This one goes out to all the "international lotharios" of junior high

All talk and no walk.
We probably should just ignore them now. 😉

Go poor, rural SE radiologist that needs to brag to medical students on anonymous message board!!!

You have conquered all and deserve all!!!!

Not bad for a Caribbean medical school grad with an inferiority complex!!!!! I know the big, prestigious groups love those types!!!

ApacheIndian, would you choose a V8 Vantage or a 911 (997) GT3?

The V8 Vantage is quite the looker (all Aston Martins in general) but it's slow as hell. And if I had the money for a brand new DB9, I think I would upgrade to a used F430. hehe
