I have heard a lot about APPIC internships throughout the application process. What are these and how do they compare to APA internships? This would be for school psychology. Thanks!

If you do a search of the forums, you should be able to pull up a few posts that list at least some of the differences.

The take home message is that APA accreditation is cumbersome to obtain, but really should continue to be pushed as the minimum in the field (APPIC views its accreditation as a stepping stone toward APA accred, I believe). Also, some doctoral programs require students to attend APA internships, and the VA requires its employees to have completed an APA internship.

It also depends on your career goals and what you want to do - as the last poster mentioned, if you ever want to work in a VA, you need an APA internship. As for school psychology, I'm not familiar with specific sites with this focus, but I would check with your program and find out what they require. Some students complete excellent APPIC internships and go on to have fine careers.

Does your school psych program require an APA accredited internship? Start with your program's requirements, they should be informative. I think NASP gets into the game for school psychology, too, but I could be wrong.
