Apple computers (Mac’s) are not accepted as your required laptop and are not supported. We will not support Apple computers even with boot-camp or virtual software programs that run Windows. Using an Apple computer at LECOM is at your own risk. Please bring a Windows based laptop to avoid any serious problems.

This is taken from their website, but at the interview, I saw many MacBook Pros and other Apple products.

Is it okay to have an Apple computer at LECOM-Erie? I haven't used a PC in 5 years and don't plan on buying one just for school.

I find it very hard to believe the school will restrict me from going to class because I have an Apple. This is the only medical school that I've been to where they say no Macs.

Can any 1st/2nd year medical students help me out? Or anyone with friends that go there? Thanks

(full disclosure, not a student there)

There is a large difference between saying a computer is not supported by tech dept and saying that you can't come to class with the computer.

In tech support language, what they are saying is that using a mac is your own risk. If you can't open the teacher's notes/materials....too bad. If you can't login to needed supplementary site.....too bad. If you can't do any of the things you need to do.....too bad.

Most things that teachers give out (pdf/video/email/discussion boards) can be worked through if you are profeicient with computer, just don't expect any mercy from them if you come across something you don't know how to work around

Just spend 200 on a barebones computer and install basic software on it ( anti-virus, office, flash, etc)

Admittedly I like the premise of a work computer. It makes my daily use computer less cluttered.

When you set up dual-booting on a MacBook, and boot into Windows....you are running the Windows operating system on Apple hardware.

The fact that they don't provide support for Windows....on a MacBook is outlandish and dumb.

Just my 2cents.

My own personal disclosure: not a LECOM student either

But, from what I have read on this topic in older LECOM threads I think the above is accurate. If I remember correctly students in those threads explained it similarly. Hopefully a current student will confirm this... and please forgive me if I'm wrong or something has changed.

I always laugh at stuff like this because in my experience you're unlikely to even need tech support when running a Mac anyway.

It's an attempt at self preservation. More PC's=more work for the IT dept.

This. Sounds like LECOM IT is just lazy. I don't blame em. Some people can be derpy with computers, which I find mildly surprising for anyone born post-1980.
