I just got a post card from UMaryland saying they don't have my $60 processing fee. Don't you pay this when you submit your secondary or do I have to submit this fee to all of the schools before I even get their secondary. If I do have to pay it now what am I paying them to process? I paid AADSAS to process it and now I have to pay the school to look at it?

hey, no with a few schools, you have to send in an application fee with your AADSAS. i know UMB is one of them, i sent them a $ 60 check at the same time i sent my aadsas. i know a few other schools require the same thing (SUNY @ Bufallo, case, etc), but call the schools u applied too and ask them. good luck

So you just send it directly to the school? I don't know how I overlooked that.

hey ya, i almost overlooked it too, but i decided to call the schools and talk to them, and they told me to make sure to send the application fee in. call the schools and get the address that they want you to send the check too. good luck

For Maryland, they don't have a secondary as far as I know, but they do need your application fee to complete your file. It kind of sucks, but schools do require their own individual fees before they look at your file.

For the schools that I'm applying to that have a secondary, they require your application fee at the time of completing your secondary, so you can probably rest easy. Might want to check for each school you're applying to, though.

Thanks. I called each school and about 5 of them require the fee now. How are applicants supposed to know this if they don't call the school. I didn't see anything about this on their sites.

That's perfect, thanks! That would have been nice about a month ago - I guess I should start reading directions.

hmmm, yeah. reading directions certainly helps and gets rid of confusions.
don't worry though, you weren't the only one who totally overlooked the suplemental part instructions. my friends, all i have to tell yo uis that if yo aren't going to be on top of things and organized, you are going to have a hell of a time in the coming months.

i am sorry you didn't see that section and also sorry that you didn't know you'd have to pay each school seperately after you have already paid AADSAS.

welcome to the application cycle my friend and get used to being a little frustrated in times.

Come on, I was joking about not reading directions. I don't really think I need to defend myself here. I was well aware that each school requires an application fee in addition to AADSAS's just not sure when they needed it.

I applied to UMaryland for no logical reason at all. I think I applied to UMaryland only to make 25 (one of my favorite numbers) schools that I applied for. I remember that they ask for $60 before anyone else. Like a dumba$$ I sent it in and four days later my $60 rejection arrive in the mail. They probably had it ready before they asked for the fee and once it arrived, they mailed it to me.

i don't know why i applied to MD, Ohio State. the one that still hurts me is Case Western. i sent them the check. i saw that they cashed it. then 2 months later when i called they said they hadn't gotten the check. then i found out that the check was cashed by their law school or some other dept and not by dental school. the 2 days later they rejected me saying i should have applied sooner.
go figure that one out. i won't even mention why i bothered with Howard and their so unprofessional ******s that answer the phones.

That is screwed up. The Law school cashing your check. I really do not care now about receiving the rejections, but at the time it was different. Howard and Columbia never sent me a rejection; I guest I am still in the running?😀 NYU sent me an interview invite mid June and stated for me to call before April 24 😕? That is ok, I was not interested. After the this whole process, what make the most pleased, other then my acceptance, it that I do not have to do it again.

I just calculated how much I have spent on prep for the DAT, AADSAS, 2nd fees, etc. So far the total comes to $3,853.44! That does not include the cost my undegrad education, or what will be my expenses for traveling.

I had a similar situation with Columbia. I have sent them the cheque and for several months I have not heard from them. So I called and they said they haven't received the cheque. Since I was pressed for time, I immediately issued another cheque to them without asking the bank to trace the original cheque before. So after when I send the 2nd cheque, I then did a trace, and the bank came back and told me that the school did indeed received and cashed my 1st cheque and now the 2nd one is cashed too. So, I immediately contacted the school asking for a reimbursement. The process drawn on for about 4 months (it took 2 months of constant contact before they even respond to me and another 2 months for the paperwork), but finally I did receive my reimbursement back.

Moral of the story: Dental schools are greedy!!!

I sent most of my application fees overnight with tracking number. Didn't have any problem at all.

yep, that sounds about right. on average, it would cost you about $700 per interview. hotel, airfare, cab money, and food. heck, i am still spending money and haven't seen a penny from my fin aid yet.

$700 per interview! 😱 I hope I don't get too many interviews. Just Kidding. Well, nobody said the education would be cheap...

$700 seems ridiculously high. For my interview for UDM, I spent 220 for a redeye flight, 50 for food, 35 for hotel, 40 for a rent a car, and 15 for gas totaling about 350. My close friend did it for less.

$35 FOR HOTEL?

WHETE THE HELL DID YOU STAY MAN?
the $700 is an avg. when i went to UCSF, i spent $70 (hotel), $40 Gas, $50 for food. so yeah, its possible.
on the other hand, my UCONN interview cost me $430 airfare, $90 hotel, $140 cab (yes $70 each way to airposrt), ~$80 food.

Some crapy hotel called Knights Inn, and it was only 7 mile from UDM. For I LLU interview I only spent 4 bucks for gas.

  just please make sure yo never stay at a motel called "Best time motel".
