Hey everybody, just prospective optometry student here freaking out. So here are some rapid fire question I find myself wondering a few weeks before the application for the 2016 cycle opens up.

When should the recommendations be submitted to the schools, is it okay to submit them before I submit my application?

Should my professors submit the recommendations to me and then I submit them, or should they be sent straight to the school?

What type of personal statement is expected? Academic, personal hardship etc.

Thanks, and I'm looking forward to hearing back!

The recommendation letters are sent directly to the OptomCAS. The professors and/or ODs will receive an e-mail from OptomCAS and they have to upload the letter. And the schools will be able to look at the letters through the OptomCAS.

I was very honest in my personal statement. Why I want to be OD, how I felt while shadowing different ODs, etc.

Hope this helps!

I agree you want to be honest. I think being fake/overselling can really show even in writing.

To add to that when the application opens up, you will be given a spot to upload your personal statement. In that spot it will say something along the lines of "describe your aptitude for becoming an optometrist, why you want to be an OD, why do you think you will succeed ect." To give you some direction. So make sure to read those points carefully and answer them all. Personally I think it's better to try to answer them with examples and really make the paper flow seamlessly rather then doing a point by point answer
