In addition to using ERAS, do we need to contact programs for an individual application? Various people at my school seem to think that you need something that sounds analagous to a secondary for med school applications. Any truth to this?

nope. ALL programs use only the ERAS applications. you might be thinking of Fellowship applications, which are often done outside of ERAS.

cheers

Generally, no. The confusion may stem from the fact that not all programs use ERAS and for those residency programs (and yes, fellowships) you contact the programs directly. They will send you or direct you toward an application. An example might be the Integrated Plastics programs - they don't use the SFMatch and most don't use ERAS, so you apply directly to the program (or at least you did 3 years ago when I was applying).

Most programs using ERAS (which is the majority which aren't using the SFMatch) don't require any additional information oher than what you have uploaded to the ERAS server.
