Hey all,

I took the DAT over this last Winter break and did pretty poorly. Here was the breakdown.

PAT--17
QR--15
RC--22
BIO--16
GC--17
OC--15
Total science--16
Academic Av.--17

That being said, I was planning to retake the DAT July 24th this summer and have been studying my butt off to get ready for it. I was under the assumption that there was a place on the AADSAS application to put something to the effect of "planned retake of the DAT on _____ date." Unortunately now the way it works with the DENT PIN I have no idea when I am supposed to send in my AADSAS aplication.

So a couple questions:

1) Should I just apply now, or should i wait until i retake the DAT again?

2) I'm assuming that my first DAT scores will be submitted with my application if i send it now--do these scores get updated with my new scores after I take it on the 24th of July?

Help me out guys, im Freaking out!

no one responded probably because no one on this forum knows the logistics of how the DAT scores are going to be sent. best bet is to call or email aadsas and see what's up. i doubt anyone can confidently answer your question on this forum

May be i am blind but i have not seen a button saying I plan on retaking the dat... that being said.

If i were in your shoes... I wouldn't take the risk applying to EVERYSCHOOL on YOUR list. Here is what i would do if i had ~300 to throw it in the trash.

First i would fill out my application send in my transcripts, etc...
I would send it to the SCHOOL that I WILL NOT APPLY TO... you might ask WHY?

Well here are the reasons: 1. all your transcripts, LOR, etc... will be processed.
2. after my retake if i feel strong about my scores i would log back in and add 20 schools. while observing the update on DAT scores. I will apply to the 20 schools only after my dat scores are updated. which will be around august 1st. then send them all out...
So when august comes it will take way less time to process your application in the end... rather than aadsas taking forever to update your app from scratch.

hope this helps... if someone has better ideas help the op.

@ Dentalwahoo:
Yeah that's what I was afraid of..looks like new territory here.

@peanutb123
Thanks for the advice. Yeah what i meant by the "button that said when i was going to retake the DAT" From what i understand the previous year's application cycle had a section where you could state that you planned to take the DAT--and basically your application would be sent to the schools with the "intent to take the DAT".

Honestly I have been banking on this idea and I think it does not apply to this year. Thanks though for the idea--it may be wise to do this to get the applications all ready and going and processed so that all i have to wait for is the new DAT scores.

Anyone else have some ideas that i could do? I am beginning to think that i kinda made a huge mistake waiting until July to do the retake.. (although i don't think i could have really given DAT studying the time it deserved with a full load at school...)

For some reason I recall that the DENTPIN asks you when you took the DAT and future times you intend to take the DAT. I was prompted to answer this when sending my score reports out.

If you are retaking your DAT, I would request scores to be released to schools of interest AGAIN ($25 per school); this way you should be prompted on what to send to the schools (i.e. - future DAT scores).

Since DENTPIN, AADSAS, DAT, and ADA seem to be so interconnected now, I think the information about a future test date may be asked on ADA via DENTPIN.

I hope this is of some help to you.

misguided information.

First of most schools do not want official score report b/c its sent by aadsas. and when you retake it they(aadsas) will automatically send the new scores to schools which will take the same amount of time for his app. to be processed agian. Just call the schools which require one. Hardly one or 2 will require off your list.

Once you make your scores available to them you dont have to spend another 25 dollars to send it again after retake they can access them online.

Quite possibly one does not need to re-release test scores ($25); it does not seem logical.

However, I do recall when I released scores 2 months ago that it asked me about future DAT dates.

One thing that does not make sense to me is why ADA would do away with the $25 fee, seeing that this was a nice money maker. 🙄

To be honest its a VERY UNFAIR PRICE to pay $25 dollars. instead may be there should be a set fee. of $100.

Do you know how much ada is making of your score... by making you pay $25 and just giving them access to your score...

~14k people apply ~15 per person - 5 free ones = $3,500,000. And my friend thats call ripping people off.

I dont think it costs Pdizzle that much to run his predents.com website which probably almost has the same number of visitors...

b/c of your posts I called all the schools on my list and i am telling you like i did before almost month ago... MOST OF them do not require it. THEY TOLD ME THEY WILL GET IT FROM AADSAS no need for official. And other thing... I was reading this thing on either aadsas/adea/ada website and it stated that they have come to an agreement that this would be better.

You're not kidding it's a rip off; it's very expensive, and adds up quickly.

I'm glad you got to the bottom of the matter that schools do not require a score release.

Personally, I don't know why the ADA would do away with such a great money maker. And I would think that any large non-profit organization that people depend upon would enjoy extra revenue for many reasons (more so than Predents, a much smaller non-profit with less overhead/expenses).

I shelled out $25 for all the places I applied because at that time (~1.5-2 months ago) I was persuaded and told to do so.

Although I feel out $300 right now, I do have a sense of security, I suppose. What is kind of disconcerting is that ADA hasn't removed the "score release" section from their website yet. The option is still there, and the ADA is still willing to accept your money. That being said, maybe this option is for Tennessee and Texas Schools who do not use AADSAS (even though ALL the schools are still on the list)?

Possibly I am giving insight into this topic based on old rules, regulations, and guidelines (from 2 months ago). Given that, I don't doubt your judgment in the least. 😉

I was thinking the same thing to why would they give it up...

But on the other side i see the price that i pay for my aadsas and i belive that should include the secondary fees to lol.

I do have to send scores from ADA but only for 2 out of my list.

Hey there,
don't freak out. Yes, take the DATs over in July but in the meantime submit your app. Once you re-take the DAT and the scores get submitted at the schools, your app. will be updated. This will work well for you if you improve significantly and/or if you have a string enough application for your designated schools.
