I called Columbia today and asked about the status of my app, and they told me it had been reviewed, but that it needed to be "re-reviewed" in a few weeks...at the earliest. I'm not sure if this means I still have a chance or not, but it doesn't look too promising. I asked them if I should re-take the DAT (20.4AA/15PAT), and the dean said it would help, but I really don't know if I should go through all of that again if it may or may not make a difference. I'm confident that I could bring up both scores, but it would mean studying like a mugg over the entire winter break. Any thoughts? Anyone with similar experiences?

what is 20.4?

It means he did a little better than 20, but not quite good enough for the 21. 😀

Just kidding, I was thinking the same thing. Maybe if you had up the 5 components of the AA and divide by 5, you get 20.4, which is then rounded down to a 20.

I thought you go by what ADA designates as your AA, not your own calculation...

anyway, as for whether or not to study like a doq over winter break and retake the DAT? It really depends how committed you are to getting in this cycle. Since things aren't looking too good unless you take it again, then it may be your only chance. You won't know unless you try, right? But if you think you can wait another year, then why not take your time to study before taking the test again.

Besides, your scores aren't bad. I would think you would have a shot of at least several schools.

ha, "20.4" means "literally 2 questions from a 22 and still bitter and trying to make myself feel better"...but i digress. thank you all for your comments. i will think it over when finals are finished and see if it's worth it. i'm pretty set on getting in during this cycle, whether w/columbia or somewhere else, but i was just interested to see if anyone has a relatable story.

that sux cindy. what a tease that is to interview pretty early like that and not hear anything. but from what they explained theyre really swamped w/apps, and even the overachievers on this site haven't gotten that many acceptances from there. plus theyre extra slow. i hope it all works out for you. keep us posted, good luck 👍
