Hi all,

I have a question regarding what it means exactly to "apply early." I've frequently heard "submit an early application" and it will be much to your advantage. BUT, what dates specify an early application?? When is early? I am mainly asking this because the last few days I have been planning out the next few academic years, trying to forecast when I take what classes/ when I study for MCAT, etc. So, if I wanted to apply early, what deadline constitutes an early application?

Basically, the plan I formulated consists of me finishing all pre-reqs by Junior academic year, then studying for MCAT and starting apps around middle of May. My summer is open till last week of August. When should my primary app be sent in? Aiming for taking MCAT in middle-late July. Will this plan have me on the right track to submit an early app?

Also, how is rigorous is studying for MCAT and doing apps simultaneously? Anybody tried to do it?

I would suggest taking the MCAT a little bit earlier, maybe in May or June. As for the primary, AMCAS opens up in mid-may but you can't submit it until June 1st. With that being said, I believe that med schools don't looks at them until June 17th so you technically don't have to hand it in on June 1st. In addition, the closer you are to the June 1st deadline, the quicker it is to verify your application. I know people who handed it in July who don't get verified for weeks.
