I just can't seem to grasp whether or not I should apply during the next cycle. Could you guys help me answer these questions? What I really need is a good solid list of dates....

When is the prime time to apply to dental school?

When is the latest that one can realistically apply to dental school?

If I were to apply during the next cycle does that mean I would enter D-school fall 06?

Can one apply and THEN: -Take the DAT
-foreward letters of recomendation

If this is possible what is the latest that one can realistically foreward those materials?

Why in the heck can I not get good answers to these symplistic questions online? 🙂

1. Best time to apply is as early as possible (May, June, July, Aug.) THe earlier the better.
2. The latest IMO is Oct./Nov. I may be wrong, but I would be sweating bullets if I applied that late. There are those who get in when applying later, but I'm willing to bet they have very solid stats. So maybe this answer depends on how good your stats are.
3. I would forward my LOR's ASAP since I'm sure you've read the horrors of having AADSAS lose them or keep them for a long time. Yes, you can apply, then send LOR's (ASAP) and take the DAT soon after applying as well. For example, I applied early June and took my DAT in middle of Sept. and I thought I took my DAT sort of late. (AGain, this is my experience only)

Good luck getting all your ?s answered by experienced SDN members who've done this perhaps more than once.

Apply ASAP in/or after May. Have the LOR and your app ready to be submitted right as soon as the applications are available in May. And then take the DAT no later then August, after that you will be strechting your luck. Just rem, if you submit everything initially, it will get your schools faster and there will be not charge by ADA. I hope you get my point. Good luck. Btw, how many schools are you applying at?

No idea...
I was just trying to see if I could SOMEHOW get around having a year off during the application process but I guess I'm going to have to wait untill next year.

Thanks for the clarifications just the same through guys.

My advice:

Move your behind as quickly as possible.

Get your essay, LOR's, application questionnaires all done by the end of your Spring semester.

File AADSAS application as soon as it becomes available.

Take your DAT but before August.

Enjoy the rest of your summer.

Relax and wait for your interview invites to come in.

Prepare to go on a road trip with your buddies in Fall. Force your friends into skipping classes so that you would have some company on your interview-trips.

good post SadSmile. I agree with you 100% except for the making your friends bunk their classes 😉, but that is a personal pref.
