Hi everyone,
I am applying this cycle and that means I need to find a job until school starts. I am only taking one postbac class this summer and don't plan to take any next year (to save money). I would like to get a job healthcare related and there seem to be two logical options for me.
1) Look for a research job at one of the major universities in my area. I don't have much research experience (although I am doing a lot of clinical research in a class this summer). I also don't have any recent lab experience. I only have good science grades, an interest in medicine, good work ethic and rocking computer skills. Which leads me to option 2...
2) Get a job in the healthcare communications field. I have extensive experience as a graphic designer and have already done some freelance work this year at one healthcare advertising agency (where they loved me). This would pay a lot more than a research gig (20k more a year!), but I am afraid it will hurt my application.
Any thoughts? I can't rely on someone else to pay my and my wife's bills, so I really need to make the money. Option 1 would allow us to pay the bills and live well enough. Option 2 would allow us to pay down some debt (home equity loan for post bac). Would doing work on the business side be considered healthcare related? I could definitely continue volunteering in addition to that job.
I have been asking people I know for advice on this, so I thought I would open it up to the SDN community as well. I'd love to hear what other people decided to do as well!
