OK, so I do believe June 1st is coming pretty quickly.
I do have a question though...
how much should I save up for this application cycle?
I am for sure applying to around 15 schools,
not including any expenses for flights, hotel, etc for interviewing.
and just talking about the application fee of applying to 15 schools.

thanks

AADSAS will probably run you around 1300-1400. Most schools have a secondary fee too. Cheapest one I've paid was 30, most expensive was 80. You're probably looking at around 2 grand.

It's not cheap and it really sucks.

its way more than 2k... are you forgetting travel expenses for interviews?

everytime you have an interview, expect to blow 500-1000 (depending on how much u pay for ticket / hotel vs relative / taxi vs renting ur own, etc).

for 15 schools and Im expecting u'll get minimum 5 interviews, your looking at $5000-8000+ (total including the AADSAS and 2ndary fees)

OP said not including travel expenses, but yes that is still correct and assuming you get 5 interviews. to the OP it is usually around $150 per school with AADSAS and secondaries.

Oh man, everyone is way off!

2014 AADSAS FEES (AADSAS only, not TMDSAS if applicable)
First school: $244
Each additional school: $90

SECONDARY FEES
Average: $62
Range: $20 - $100
(based on the 64 schools listed in AADSAS summary (US resident fee) - check school website to verify)

So a rough estimate for your 15 schools:
AADSAS: $1,504
Secondaries: $930
Hard Liquor: $2,000
TOTAL: $4434

Cycle opens June 3.

I spent like >$4,000. SF plane ticket the week before Thanksgiving cost me $1,000. Deposits totaled $1,500. Hotel cost me on average $150 to 4 interviews so $600. Then gas, food, secondary fees, AADSAS fees, etc.

Don't forget about DAT/Prometric fees and study material costs.

It all depends on how many secondaries and interviews you get

Yup. I went to 8 interviews, and applied to a TON of schools. By the time all expenses were said and done, including new suits and all that, I think I probably spent upwards of 10 grand...

I wouldn't say thats the norm

I applied to 16 schools and went on 4 interviews, all said and done it cost ~3500. Saved a ton of money driving to interviews and staying with friends when I could.

Definitely not the norm. I got unlucky a few times too. The timing of some of my interviews were such that the flight alone was over a grand. I also applied to too many schools because I was freaking out about my RC score. I could have saved a lot on secondary fees alone by just applying to less.

We all wish we could have only applied to schools that would've ended up accepting us. 😀

You got some great suits out of it though, right? Oh, and acceptances...those are nice too, I guess.

Correct. I now have some fresh threads that will last me a long time. And a seat at a sweet dental school on the side.
