This sucks, I called AAMC yesterday and was told applications would open June 2, 8:30 eastern. Since I am on vacation in Honolulu I would need to stay awake to 2:30 AM over here.

Today I called to inquire about where the submit button is and was told that the earliest applications opens is 9:00 eastern but they don't really know.

So now I have to stay up all night hitting the refresh button to get my application in as soon as possible so that I am guranteed to get my verified application sent on June 23, the first day they send out applications to med schools.

DAMN YOU AAMC, first the MCAT Score release hell you put us through and now this!

If you get it in on June 3, you're gonna be just fine. There's a big difference between waiting a day and a month. Chill, as long as it gets in within the next few days you'll be fine.

haha, after you submit your primaries, your life is basically 6 weeks of secondary writing, followed my months of interviewing and waiting. chill, its gonna be a long year.

Wow you're hardcore. I don't think waking up early and submitting a few hours later will hurt your chances of getting verified. If you're transcripts are already in, you should be fine. If they are not, it doesn't matter when you hit the submit button because they'll be waiting for the transcript anyways (I have a feeling you sent in your transcripts in early May).

Then again, I guess there is that distinction of being the first applicant to submit their apps. I hear that person gets an automatic interview invite to all the schools.

Also, on the AMCAS main page, there is a button that says "submit application" just above "print application"

I looked through the 2013 thread. The app opened at about 9:30 Eastern last year.

I actually heard that the first person to submit gets into every school, not just an interview.

 maybe if they didn't have to complete secondaries. 😉

You know that's true based on what my premed advisor and everyone else at my school has been telling me.

dude you're buggin. relax in Hawaii

Throughout your application cycle, keep in mind that it's a lot of rushing, then waiting, then rushing again. You need to prioritize your checklist, and the online application shouldn't be at the top.

I'd say that the two most time-consuming parts of the AMCAS are waiting for your transcript and letters of rec. to be received. Make sure those have already been sent off. The actual application is instantly received.

Enjoy your time in Hawaii! I got back two weeks ago from Honolulu, and it was an amazing vacation! 🙂 Best of luck!

all of y'all are seriously tripping over NOTHING. This application only makes up 1/3 of your file. You still need to worry about secondaries and LOR's being sent in.

Here is my question then. Since most schools now participate in the AMCAS LOR service, won't these go out to all schools as soon as your advisor uploads them to AMCAS?

Another question I had is when do schools usually send out secondaries to those who apply early in the cycle? The beginning-mid of July or so?

It is amazing that I got into med school at all considering I was such a slacker and there are so many of you crazy ass premeds out there.

The schools will either get your LORs when they send an update just after yours are uploaded, or in the first massive data dump on June 24th, depending on when your LORs are uploaded.

Schools won't get your primary until June 24th. A few schools will send out secondaries immediately or very soon after this time. Most will send them throughout July.

so if schools won't get our info until june 24th, is there any benefit to being verified before then?

If I submit june 17th and I'm verified june 23rd, is there any difference between if I submitted first day and become verified say june 6th?

Amen!

I didn't even submit AMCAS until late July and still made out like a bandit during the cycle.

Good luck everyone!

Nope. Except that you don't know how long it'll take you to be verified. Some people will be verified painlessly and right away, but you may be one of the unlucky ones with a glitch that'll eat up a couple weeks of time.

That said, last time I applied, I submitted June 19th, and was verified on the 21st. I think that year, the first wave of applications was sent out on the 20th.

Let's hope that we don't crash the server tomorrow when everyone starts submitting their application. 🙁

Hold onto your butts, 1 more minute until June 2nd.

it opened for submissions kids, go go go

ITS JUNE 2ND OMG SKEET SKEET SKEET. I WIN I pushed submit!

Just Kidding! 🙂 Hopefully no one fell for this. It was kind of a cruel prank but no harm in checking right? 👍

Good night everyone!

you know that they would check at 12 on the dot anyways

it opened for submissions? how come it says "AMCAS will not be accepting submissions at this time"??

No, this was a joke. AMCAS hasn't opened yet, we were just playing a prank on all the neurotic premeds 🙂

Check back tomorrow and see if you can submit

No way I'm waking up at 6AM to press submit.

You won't have to get up at 6 AM. If AMCAS is anything like the MCATs, the application will arbitrarily open at anytime tomorrow between 9:00 am all the way to 6:00 pm (assuming that everything goes according to plan - if not, it might get pushed back to June 3rd or even later).

Besides that, submitting it a day or two later isn't even going to make a difference

haha. and i was just one that actually fell for it. i am tired of apps already. i just want to press submit and get amcas over with..... and then in 3 weeks start thinking about med school apps again.

I feel your pain my man. I'm just waiting for tomorrow so that I can hit submit and then hop onto a plane for China. Then for the next 3 weeks - spring break Chairman Mao style 😀 - I'm getting totally wasted on Motai and then borrow a couple of tanks to tear around Tianamen Square. I'll probably get kicked out the country in a couple of days anyway.

you know you can find secondaries from last year here. You can start now, like me.:meanie:

Oooh. sounds tempting....

BUT

I will be lazy for once. i deserve it from clicking refresh 109384 times today. i will be bogged by secondaries once they come. 😎

you can look through the ones to see which ones have no essays. that way, you know which ones you can easily send early w/ no added effort.

As of 6:35 EST applications are still closed.

I know its a bit early but with the screwed up way AAMC is run you never know when they'll open.

at first, I thought OP was just a really funny guy

but then I just read ^^ post and yeah, you were serious haha

looks like it opened btw 9 and 9:30 kiddos... go get 'em tigers! best of luck! 👍

cool. just submitted. now the status is "ready for review by an AMCAS verifier"

yay, no more re-reading my PS!😴

You're assuming wrongly that if you submit on the 17th, you'll be verified on the 23rd. It all depends on how busy they get. Last year, I submitted in mid-June and wasn't verified until mid-July. It took about five weeks for verification at that point.
