I applied and was complete at most places pretty early (early sept). I only have 2 interviews scheduled. I think I got rejected after my 1st interview (still waiting). My 2nd is in November. LECOM-B said they are waiting for my Aug MCAT. I have yet to hear from anyone else (applied to 15 places, one flat out pre-interview rejection).

Is it safe to say I'm officially done scheduling interviews? I ask because I noticed that most people last year who got late interviews applied late. Are the schools that I havent heard back from done with me?

I don't think so. Truthfully, MOST schools have just recently started interviews. And I even know people who interviewed in feburary to their first choice and got in.

It's all relative at this point, and you're not really late. Its still very early in the admission cycle and I wouldn't worry too much about the timing. If you're waiting on your august MCAT scores, then I'd say MOST schools are delaying waiting for those scores to reach them and they'll interview you after the screening.

Also, you told them that you re-took the August MCAT.

If your MCAT score wasn't spectacular the first time (what I would expect if you felt the need to retake), I would expect that schools are not going to offer you interviews until after the Aug scores come out.

i would normally agree with that statement, but the fact that i got 2 interviews from those 2 schools means (to me, at least) that my 1st MCAT was good enough for interested schools to extend me an interview. This is why I ask if I may have the statistics, but the schools just may not be interested in me (cuz as we all know, the admissions process is a crapshoot).

i think the person was referring to the fact that most schools would wait on yoru scores IF you told them you were planning on retaking the MCAT. That's not to say your scores weren't good enough in the first place, its just something that they do sometimes.

I wouldn't be too worried at this point. There are people who haven't had any interviews yet. ITs all relative right now and you just gotta be patient with the adcoms.

I applied to 12 schools, complete in early/mid September and have gotten interview invites from three, with the rest sending "your application is now complete..." letters. Incidentally, the schools I sent the secondaries into most recently are the quickest to reply. It is still early - when I applied allopathic two years ago, it took up 1-2 months to hear back from schools. The turnaround for DO schools is quite impressive, I think!

Some schools will interview you with a lower MCAT if you are planning on taking it again, assuming the rest of your file is in good shape. I know people who had 19's who got interviews, but they didn't get accepted. If, they had improved their MCAT scores in the meantime, though, maybe it would have turned out differently. A lot of people on last year's waiting lists had everything they needed...except for a good MCAT score. When you sit down and talk to those people who got in off of the waitlists the last week before school started, their greatest common denominator was a below-average MCAT.

So are you saying that if you got an interview this early with a crappy MCAT score, the best you'll get is a waitlist? If so, that sucks. I'm just trying to prepare myself for reality to settle in. Yes, my MCAT score in april was bad. I guess it's good enough to get my foot in the door in terms of interview, but I'm starting to see where it's obviously not good enough for acceptance. These early interviews sure are false hope.

i would definately NOT label that as fact. Yes poor MCAT scores might hold you back but it's not the deciding factor.

If you are a good student, with poor MCAT scores, but have something that drives your application, (i.e. graduate work, research, post-bac) you might have an excellent chance of being accepted. My friend, without mentioning names, had a 22O MCAT and did a post-bac program and was accepted the year afterwards.

So stay positive and see what happens.

No, that's not always the case. But, most schools won't give out an acceptance right away to someone with a "crappy" MCAT score because they want to wait and see if someone better comes along...unless there is some other really compelling reason to accept you. Remember, though, that there are always exceptions to the rule. Every single application is different.

It's still early on Cee. You said you applied early. How early is early? DO schools interview well into next year. People are still getting interviews for late October through November right now. Hang in there!
