Disadvantaged White Female, CALIFORNIA
GPA: 3.94 small liberal arts college
MCAT: 509 (80thPercentile): C/P = 128, CARS = 128, B/B = 127, P/S = 126
Extracurriculars: president and founder of club, clinical and nonclinical volunteering, phlebotomist. Research with multiple poster presentations at national conferences. Did a summer research program, Piano, guitar ensemble, TA for chemistry classes, nursing home volunteer, organize homeless outreach program, really great letters of rec. Lots of departmental awards. In home supportive service provider.

Should I postpone my app and retake? What schools do i have a chance at if I submit primary app in 3 days (August 4)? If I postpone til next cycle, I will also have 2 publications.

Thank you so much for your input in advance! 🙂

Any DO program. I can't recommend Touro-NY, or LUCOM, for different reasons
UCD
UCI
UCR IF you're from the Inland Empire
UCLA (maybe)

Thank you so much @Goro ! Can I apply to all the UCs, or just the ones you listed? (not riverside)

You have a good application. Historical norms would suggest that the pool of applicants with your stats has an 80% chance of success.
As long as you pay twice as much attention to your OOS list as IS, you could have a successful cycle.
Thanks for your reply @gyngyn ! Will it still be successful even though I'd be submitting August 4th?

Applying to UCSD or UCSF will be a donation.
Any chance at USC Keck? It's my dream school... I'm very devoted to becoming a primary care physician and serving the underserved in southern california.

You're > their 10th%ile, but barely.

Your call.

When I'm looking at schools on MSAR, what should I be looking for? My MCAT being above 25th%ile to be safe? Thanks @Goro !

No, except maybe Tufts
Thank you Goro. I'm sorry for bothering you so much. I saw that Oregon Health and Science accepts out of state. Do you recommend that? How about brown and dartmouth? (only because I have family in those states). My friend from CA got into Hawaii. Is it a long shot for me to as well?

When you see state schools accept OOSers, you need to look at how many of them applied, got IIs, vs how many actually matriculated. In general, the OOSers are people who either grew up in the state, or went to university there, especially the med school's parent university. ORH&S particular favors the home team in this way. I do not consider having family in a state to be a significant tie, although UNLV disagrees with me.

Brown highly favors their own, and I can't recommend them.

Everybody wants to go to JAB, so no. State schools favor the home team, so you have to be > avg.

Dartmouth is in striking distance
