I will be graduating with an economics degree in the spring of 2010 and will have most of my pre-requisites done except for Organic chem. I and II, which I will be taking in the summer and physics II, which I could also take in the summer or wait until the spring of 2011.. which brings me to my question..
Would it be ridiculous if I would apply this september, graduate in the spring And then take a total of 3 summer classes which would probably end in mid August and then go to podiatry school at the end of August of 2010?? If I wait to apply next September I will have a whole year of waiting to go to podiatry school, which I could possibly take one or two other science courses because I'm not a bio major and I could find a job and save a little more money and get more shadowing hours.
I wasn't sure what to do... and I would like to get some advice from a podiatry student since I would only have a few weeks off then go directly back to school and study, if i chose my first plan, Has anyone done this before?? Thanks in advance!

"summer classes which would probably end in mid August "

At OCPM, our orientation is July 30th, and they keep us busy with mandatory workshops until class starts on Aug 10.

as dropfoot said, OCPM starts at the end of july. You are assuming that the pod programs all start at the end of the summer, like undergrad. In fact, a number of other programs start in mid august. I know that Barry starts a bit later than other schools (20 something August) and I think NYCPM starts even later though, but it seems to be the exception.

You have to factor in moving, settling in, all that stuff too.

temple orientation is aug 19 i believe. classes start the following monday.

When do you plan to take the MCAT? and...You plan to take Orgo I and Orgo II during the summer...at the same time? Keep in mind that the MCAT has orgo and physics.

That will definately be cutting it close, but I have a friend in classes with me right now who is going to start Pod school this summer. He has been super busy and super stressed out! Everytime I look at the guy I think he is going to snap. He has been moving across country, dealing with pod school loans, and taking a full course load. Don't do that to yourself. I think he is going to get buried when school starts because he won't be able to physically or mentally catch up.

I hope you don't plan to take the mcat without finishing physics and ochem. ochem I and II in the summer will be intense (i assume your school has ochem lab along with the classes?) physics II and physics lab will be time consuming. If this is all in one summer session, you might end up either killing your gpa or so stressed that you'll consider dropping one and getting mad at yourself.

why can't you take these classes in the fall and spring? Did you start general chem yet? how far are you in your prereqs?

if i were you, i would apply for matriculation in 2011. Less stress, you can take the classes at a decent pace, you can get a job and save money as well.

good luck with whatever you choose.

You're heading straight for burnout if you push yourself for August 2010. CSPM starts third week of August with orientation the week before. You'll immediately have to hit the ground running with at least 5 sciences courses in the first semester.

Give yourself some breathing room. Go do something fun before entering school again.

thanks for the advice... I thought Temple classes usually start at the end of August but I forgot about orientation dates. I have only visited Temple and loved it.. only about 2 hrs from my house but I will wait another year so I have more time studying for the MCAT and visiting other colleges over the next year. I guess it could be done, but I don't want to burn myself out. I was planning on taking org. chem 1 in summer session 1 and II in the second summer session. But I will probably just spread it out into the next fall and spring semester.
Thanks again for the help
