27 y.o. non-trad who has yet to finish all pre-reqs. I'd like to apply for DO and lower tier MD this cycle but still need to take Phys 2, Orgo 2, and the MCAT. I'm currently enrolled in Phys 1 (finish in mid June), then plan to study to take the MCAT in July, and apply in August.

The alternative would be to take condensed Orgo 2 or Phys 2 in the summer ending in July, take the MCAT in August and apply in late September.

Does anyone have thoughts on the preferred route? I don't think either are ideal, but I really do not want to delay another year.

My stats w/out Phys 1, 2, Orgo 2 are cGPA 3.75 sGPA 3.47. A couple W's and a grade replacement.

ECs are good. Worked for two years in medical software, two years in health policy research, one year as a brain injury rehab specialist, RA for one year at Harvard Med (primary care study), volunteered 300 hours in a hospitals, shadowed 50 hours primary and neuro.

Thanks.

Frankly, this plan is way too rushed. Your MCAT studying will not be long enough or focused enough solely upon the test itself. Also, your application would be late for MD schools and pushing it for DO schools as well.

I would really suggest you begin seriously prepping for the MCAT after you have taken all your prereq's. I know some individuals have done the opposite and performed well, but they are the exceptions. You said you haven't taken Orgo 2 yet. Does this mean you still haven't taken Biochemistry as well (usually Orgo 1 + 2 are prereqs for it)? If so, you need to take that class too before you start your prep, since the new exam has added Biochem material on it.

Don't rush the process. You have a great resume (& stats) so far. Delay your application a year so that you can hopefully have some options as to where you attend medical school.
