Hi,

I wanted to apply ASAP + broadly to a lot of DO schools under the impression DO schools are interviewing without MCAT. However, after much thought, I am starting to think that this is a way for them to benefit profit-wise.

Do you think I should apply ASAP + broadly w/o MCAT OR Apply to 1 throwaway, get my MCAT back and then apply to schools?

Please let me know. I appreciate your help very much.

For sure the second option. You're fine to apply DO up until Thanksgiving.

If you think 1) your application is otherwise competitive and 2) expect a competitive MCAT score, then yes, the second option.

If you are particularly dubious about your chances i.e. are relying on a high MCAT score, then wait for the score before applying to avoid being a potential "reapplicant"... although frankly I don't think being a reapplicant is too damning in DO admissions.

Agree with above. If your GPAs and coursework history can stand on its own legs without the strength of a high MCAT, apply now!

Without knowing your GPA and stats this is all hypothetical, but if you’re not wanting to share that information that is fine. If you honestly feel your stats are decent while awaiting your MCAT then definitely apply now like the others have stated.

In regards to the schools making profits, every DO and MD school receive thousands of applications a year, so they don’t need to entice people to apply for extra cash.

I went from a 2.2 —> finished with a cGPA of a 3.7. I 4.0ed the last 82/90 credits and 3.5ed the remaining 8 credits. I need to calculate sGPA but I think with AACOMAS it is around a 3.6?

3 years as a Resident Assistant, served on the Diversity and Inclusion committee. Special Olympics for 2 years. Kids without cancer for 2 years. Food bank: ~40 hours. Smile 4 kids = ~30 hours. Undergraduate Learning Assistant: 240 hours/1 semester.

Medical Assistant: 500 hours right now but because of Coronavirus I can’t work. Volunteering: 200+ hours at the same hospital for the last 4 years. 3 years in a research lab(no pubs). Shadowing: 80 of a DO between 3 doctors. 2 Letters from Science professors, 1 from RA supervisor, 1 from a DO I worked with.

What are yall thoughts? Should I apply ASAP to DO schools and take MCAT in August (potentially Sept) depending on when AAMC lets me reschedule? I appreciate you guys!

I recommend waiting until you have your score. You can always apply to one throwaway schools to get your app verified.

Sounds good! How come by the way? Because I don’t have an MCAT score and if I do poorly it could back fire?
