Hey all,

I'm a Canadian hoping to get a US residency in emergency medicine (eventually!).

I have a 3.8 GPA and a 33 S MCAT (12 PS, 9 VR, 12 BS).

I'm deciding whether to apply to SGU or not. It's a bit late for me to apply to the US (rolling admissions), and my 9 in VR cuts me out of a lot of Canadian schools.

What's your advice? Should I wait and apply to the US in June (early) for next year? Or, should I just try and get in to SGU?

Thanks!

Wait until next term and apply to an American/Irish/Australian school. Try Canadian schools just for fun because you never know. As for SGU, you can start and then try to transfer but it may be harder for a non-US citizen to transfer to a US school.

Your stats are competitive for US schools as a Canadian student. One year will not make an ounce of difference. Plus it gives you time to volunteer or do something unique to make you stand out.

Gotta agree on this one, you are going to get into a US school, just wait a year. 1 year really wont matter. If I really need to say it... your stats are great. Dont rush it!

apply to canadian schools NOW

Your GPA is really high and your MCAT is above average for most US schools. Just wait and apply next year and you should be able to get in somewhere.

your stats look good. i think you should wait for next year, or even apply late for this year.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone.

Any thoughts about applying to the U.S. right now? I was thinking that if I did that, I could also apply to Ireland and the Caribbean right now too. This way, if I get lucky, I can save a year.

I know it's super late for U.S. rolling admissions, hence the dilemma.

Thanks!

Apply everywhere. See what happens.

Your stats are really good. You should apply now for US schools. Many of them have a deadline of December 1st, and you definitely have a chance if you submit your application now.
Also if DO is an option for you. You are not late for DO schools and you have a better chance of getting residency in US than if you go to carribean schools.
Good Luck, I wish I had your MCAT score.
