Hi, I had a question about applications.

So I am scheduled to take the MCAT in July. However, I was under the impression that I should submit the application ASAP in june, and it takes 6-8 weeks to verify (and just apply to like 1 school so it goes through) and to add schools after taking the MCAT and getting scores. Is that right? How long after getting my scores if I applied to more schools, would it take to get verified and complete? or would it be better to just apply to all i would have no matter what and a few more just in case in june and add more as i see fit in august when i get my scores????!!

It does take a few weeks to get verified. You could submit your AMCAS in June, and it would be verified (and you probably will have received some secondaries) by the time you submit your MCAT score to AMCAS. I could remembering incorrectly, but I'm pretty certain that you only need to be verified once. So after your MCAT score gets sent to AMCAS in August, you may just need to re-submit the application and select more schools (without lag time).

+1 Get everything out there in June since it will be verified regardless of if they have your MCAT score or not (and they don't need to re-verify it after they receive the score).

I had an August MCAT but had my primary done in June, and while waiting for my score I still received plenty of secondaries. I made sure to get them done before my score came out so that when my MCAT was finally out, I could send all of my secondaries immediately afterwards. Despite what people say about the necessity of getting your app out there early, I still had 3 MD interviews and 2 acceptances (withdrew from the last one after getting into top choice).

Thanks so much! But why did you have to wait until your MCAT scores were out to send the secondaries? Can't you send them as you complete them (before you get your scores back)?

I mean yes I guess I could have, but I wanted to see what my MCAT score was, b/c if it wasn't competitive enough for school x, I didn't bother paying a secondary app fee to send it. This actually did pay off as 2 schools I almost sent secondaries to (U. of Pitt and Penn), my MCAT score was far below their average MCAT. Also if my MCAT was too low, I wasn't going to bother sending in any secondary app at all as I probably wouldn't get any interviews.
