applying DO without MCAT yet?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If you take the jan MCAT, you'll get your scores back in late february/early march. Aplying that late limits you to the schools that you can apply too, since by March most classes will be 90% filled. I know someone who applied in march to bradenton and got in 3 days before orientation off the waitlist. So you'll have a shot, but it will be slim. my advice is to apply for the next cycle, since although u might get into a DO school with late a application, it might not be the DO school you want to go to.

If you dont mind me asking, why are you taking the MCAT so late?

Honestly, I don't mind were I go. Tristate is always best for me as it is home.

I was suppose to take the MCAT in sept. but wasn't ready. I was aiming for a 30. Stupid me.

If your an average applicant (i.e. 3.3 GPA 25MCAT, with avg clinical and research expierience) i would apply next cycle, if your GPA is above a 3.5 and your MCAT is close to 30, and you have done solid research and shadowed several DO's then I say go for it. Since by applying really late, the selection goes up.

Most schools will only accept the MCAT up until September 2007. I know DCOM will accept the January MCAT but will be at a great disadvantage interviewing in March or later at the schools that will accept it. At this point it is a long shot to be accepted this year even with a high score, I would probably just hold out until next cycle if you like not wasting money.

thanks guys. I Just am so upset that i graduate this year. I wanted to just continue studying straight through.

I does suck... but I'm taking the year off this year after completing a master's and it is nice! The down time is much needed and I would not have it any other way. My main advice is dont set yourself up for a let down, always put yourself in the best position in success (in this case this means having all your apps submitted in June to give yourself the best chances possible regardless of MCAT score).

If I were in this situation I would apply next cycle. If by chance you do not get in because there are no spots left in the colleges you applied to, that means you wasted all your good letter of recommendation and you would have to get new ones for next year.

Hey guys,

would it be possible to apply to DO schools in feb and take the mcat jan 26th?

Applying later in the cycle certainly doesn't increase your odds, but it is still doable. I would research about the deadlines for taking the MCAT for each of the schools that you apply to. If the deadlines for schools do allow you to take your MCAT in January, great, but I would complete your applications before taking the MCAT. In that way, all you have to do is wait for your score.

There are opportunities for you to consider if you don't get into medical school this year. Nova has an MBS program that allows you to take courses with the med students. Some of the courses that you take transfer into your first year of med school. In that way, you'll still be taking courses and working towards the same goal...it'll just take you another year. Best of luck.

I would talk to the schools you want to apply to. I have applied to many schools and have not taken the MCAT yet, (jan 26) and they have all told me to apply now. Anything is possible, dont count yourself out for this year yet. Call the schools, I bet they say apply!

they get the secondary money anyways👍

too late for this cycle--apply for '09. Perhaps in the meantime look for post-bac stuff.
