  1. Pre-Medical
So I am tossing around the idea of applying this cycle 'early assurance' for the 2008 matriculation at MUO. They have this 'MedStart' program that allows you to apply the fall at the beginning of your junior year for matriculation after graduation with a bachelor's and completed pre-med courses. In order to apply, you have to have half of your pre-med coursework done (at minimum), and it is 'suggested' that you have a 1300+/29+ on the SAT/ACT, a 3.6 GPA and a 3.5 science GPA.

I rocked my SATs, am halfway done with the pre-med courses, and hopefully at the end of this semester will have a 3.6ish overall/3.33ish science (according to my school). I am an in-state student. Last year, 2/3 of the applicants were given a seat. I really would like to apply for it, but am worried that my science GPA is on the lower side. (da*n frosh anatomy and micro!)- but the worst of it is I have a shady first semester of freshman year of undergrad at another institution that looks *horrible* <-includes Fs, but has a really crappy life situation behind it. In my mind, worst case scenario is I apply and don't get accepted. Then I can always take the April MCAT next year and apply that cycle to a range of schools. On the other hand, they could interview me and decide they like me : ) and then I could concentrate on finishing up college without worrying about the MCAT etc. (did I mention that with this program it isn't necessary to take the MCAT-ever?). The application fees are waived, so no worries as far as cost goes.

So part of me wants to apply with the coursework I have done, the other part wants me to wait and complete more coursework to bring up my science GPA and take the MCAT to show I have a solid understanding of the sciences. I have decent life experience (nursing) in acute healthcare and haven't really had time to do a whole lot else as far as ECs go lately. MUO is my number one choice for alot of reasons, it is convenient I only live half an hour away and wouldn't have to relocate my family.

My husband is sick of hearing me talk about this : )
As for my crappy first year of undergrad, whether I apply now or later, it is always going to come back to bite me : /

Anybody have words of wisdom to share?
